Is talking about religion even worth it? Does anything positive ever come out of it? Or do people just like arguing? (In the same way that they enjoy watching violent movies and events).

Sometimes it is more about learning about other people's beliefs than arguing over who is right and who is wrong. If you are talking about religion in order to learn about other cultures and beliefs, it is worth it. (if you think learning about religion is worth something) I guess it just depends on why you are discussing it, and how the people discussing it go about it. If they are condesending jerks, it isn't worth it, because no one learns anything, but if they approach it in a way of telling you "this is what I believe and this is why," without saying "and you are stupid if you don't agree," then it can be worth something.

Don't take the discussions on this forum as necessarily indicative of what happens during most religious conversations. I never would have become a Christian without talking to people. People change religions all the time, and it is almost always partly a result of discussions, and yes even arguments (although rarely are those discussions the only motivator -- it will generally have to do with actual connection with people).

yes, it's worth it.
learning about what others believe and why, comparing beliefs and world views, and talking about faith is useful. we learn a lot, and sometimes get our own ideas challenged, or get the chance to ask / challenge someone on what they believe, and why.
in the end, not all world views or religious concepts can be true. universalism and a message of a specific, excluding truth can't both be true. but that doesn't mean we shouldn't learn, ask, and listen.
Much of a positive nature comes from religious discussion... at least in my experience...

Atheism is growing worldwide. (There are pockets of dark ages still) As the age of enlightenment and knowledge falls upon us the former things will pass way. As we embrace technology and biology then death will be no more. Neither will mourning or outcry or pain be anymore as the former supersticious nonsense will have passed away.
It's worth it to me. People interest me- including their faith (and non-faith). To learn about people's faith, helps understand one facet of a person.
