one liners

Question Everything
Post your fave one liners! You know, those "someone once said" gems that are passed along because they contain timeless truths. Here are a few I recently cam across:

When it gets dark enough, you can see the stars...

Losing your temper is no way to get rid of it.

You are neither as good as your friends say you are, nor as bad as your enemies say.

It is good to have an open mind
so long as it is not so porous
as not to hold convictions.

The person who does only what is required of them is a slave;
the moment he does more, he is a free man.

In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

You can't expect anyone to see eye to eye with you when you're looking down on them.
If you are not as close to God as you were, you need not wonder who moved.

If you would lift others up, you must be on high ground yourself.
They won't listen to their conscience
- they don't want advice from a total stranger.

Many people use religion like a bus: they ride it only when it is going their way.

Many Christians are like pins,
pointed in one direction
but headed in another.

Men occationally stumble over the truth,
but most pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened.

We should work harder
at being what we should be,
than at hiding what we are.

the ladder of hope
has nothing to rest on here below,
it is held up from above.

You are either leaving a mark on the world,
or the world is leaving a mark on you.

No man is truly free if he cannot command himself.

Only the foolish and the dead never change their minds.

The person who looks up to God will never look down on others.

A great many people think they are thinking
when they are merely rearranging their prejudices.

Everything that irritates us about other
can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.

Why do you suppose that God gave us two ears
but only one mouth?

Tomorrow's burdens were never meant to be borne with today's grace.

So I am I because you are you; and you are you because I am I –so neither I am I, nor you are you. But I am I because I am I; and you are you because you are you – so I am I and you are you, and we can talk to each other!
–Old Yiddish Proverb

Question Everything
the guilty taketh the truth to be hard, for it cutteth them to the very center.
(Book of Mormon | 1 Nephi16:2)

Only when the pools of our perception are clear,
can we see things as they really are.

My personal one liner: Keep a smile on your face - people will assume you are crazy and leave you alone! :D

Maybe not traditionally a one liner but it has only 1 full stop , so I assert it counts, mostly because I want it to. :D

Believing there is no God means the suffering I've seen in my family, and indeed all the suffering in the world, isn't caused by an omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent force that isn't bothered to help or is just testing us, but rather something we all may be able to help others with in the future. No God means the possibility of less suffering in the future. Penn Jillette
