WHFoods: Should I be concerned about drinking coffee?

This is a Q and A from the worlds healthiest foods org web site..I love this web site..they have a plethora of information on nutritional content and health benefits of many many different foods..I then to respect this mans opinion.

He's not to keen on caffeine it seems.Oh and he is particularly not fond of coffee.

Things like red bull don't have much of an effect on me. I don't get hyper or feel more awake.

...and I thought I was the only one who won't feel anything when drinking energy drinks. I actually have Monster energy drinks sometimes, I like the flavor the the light blue cans with 10 calories per serving. To me, this energy drink is just like drinking a more expensive soda...

I have an energy drink maybe a couple times a week when my job and life requires me to be awake for 24-36 hours. I feel it helps, but I try not to over caffeinate myself when it is not necessary.

I can work 80+ hours (40 at a foundary as a radiographer and 40+ at a Burger king) without more than my usual addiction to Pepsi and make it just fine so what does that prove? Are we relying on experientalism here?

Anyways, to get back on topic, you can do a search on kids and energy drinks( which is the main concern of this thread) and find all sorts of information.

Friends,
Had heard the Chinese and many other athletes use such energy pills/drinks for performance enhancement?
Every action has a reaction. These too must be having some such effects.
Should they be used or not?
It is the individual using them that needs to decide.

Have never really kept track, but lets just say that it was the same as the amount you stated or more that would still not amount to the same quantity that is in one of those energy drinks and attempting to drink the same volume of energy drinks as stated would be much more effective then drinking pepsi. It is irellevent to bring it up. Once again, I thought we were dealing with minor useage not adult here.

That would definetely be an interesting experiment if it were possible. I just don't think that there is an energy drink made with the amounts per volume of caffine. If I felt the same effects as I mentioned before then we could definetely narrow it down to the other ingredients (taurine, guarana, etc) as being the cause.

Side note: Did you notice that pepsi has made a version without high fructose corn syrup and sugar instead for a limited time?

Those energy drinks are definitely harsh on the body... I have actually been addicted to drinking AMP and MONSTER. There has been times where after downing one in less than 10 minutes, I got an instant headache. I have also gotten headaches while craving them. You definitely should limit the amount of them your son drinks. They are not healthy.
