Resurrection of the Dead

Is their any religion other than Messianic Judaism/Christianity that believes in the resurrection or freedom from death?

If you mean that as some broader category than "resurrection," then pretty much every religion is fundamentally based on some notion of freedom from death. I daresay that's the whole purpose. A religion that doesn't purport to offer some sort of freedom from death would be like an airplane that doesn't fly.

Yes, perhaps I should have excluded such a broad concept. I suppose I meant LITERAL freedom from or absence of death.

The Summerland of certain types of neopaganism is an afterlife free of death and winter.

Just about every agrarian cult believes in the death/resurrection of the god. Death/resurrection of the believer is the result -perhaps - of the city-dweller Paul's mind.

Wasn't the idea of resurrection of the people an idea accepted among the Pharisees, as opposed to the Sadducces who did not believe in an afterlife?

Yeah, but it was different than Paul's idea. I'll have to give you a rain check on a detailed explanation.

Thanks AE. I would be interested to read what you have to say about it when you have time. Until then, good luck in the land of the dead, awaitiing your own resurrection.

I believe many religions had the the same general idea of a god ressurected after 3 days, a common theme amongst ancient religions.

Hmmm.... Doesn't really seem like the same thing, since you would have a different body. Resurrection implies that your body is restored.

Greetings!

We Baha'is believe in resurection, but as a spiritual rather than a physical event!

Best regards, :)

That would greatly dissapoint my wife. She wants to have Marilyn Monroe's body as her resurrection body.

If we take Jesus as the example His body was not the same. As far as I know there is no information as to what our body will be but if you are putting in requests remenber that God tends to do favors for the righteous.

IMHO any body that doesn't die is a good body.

Resurrection is to an adult body whereas reincanation or rebirth is to a baby's body.

Where does it say that Jesus had a different body? As far as I know, it WAS the same body, otherwise the body would have still been in that tomb...

But why the three days?????????????????
The metaphor of three days appears over 50 times in the Bible (kind of like the 40 days/40 nights metaphor). Jesus claimed that three days and three nights was "the sign of Jonah" and would be proof that he was the Son of God. Jesus also claimed that he would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, a claim he was mocked for. In Revelation, John claims that the two witnesses will be killed and not buried and will also come back to life in three days. WHY three days? I don't know.

Enoch, the one redeemed from the previous world, who at the age of 365, was carried to the other dimension that co-exists within this one which we call the kingdom of God, where he remained as our indwelling ancestral spirit for a period of three thousand years or three days, untill he was reborn on earth in the body of his obedient servant Jesus who died to who he was that our saviour might live through him, and Elijah, the prophet of fire, who disappeared three thousand years ago, or three days, is soon to appear on earth to gather those through who he shall rule the Sabbath, or the seventh period of one thousand years from when Adam ate of the forbidden tree and died in that day at the age of 930.
