Offhand, I can think of no other way to interpret this than the Pope's a fool.

*Shakes head*, its sad, that people who represent a very large public and sway power refuse to wake up into the era they live in and the reality of its social issues and discrimination.

Saving the world from homosexuality is as important as saving the rainforests. Yes really.
BBC NEWS | World | Europe | Pope attacks blurring of gender

Well said by the leader of billion + Christian souls, Christian follow the teaching of Christ, so really seeking the Kingdom of God is more important, this is the Christian tenet: Mat 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.
The Catholic Church opposes gay marriage. It teaches that while homosexuality is not sinful, homosexual acts are.
This is what he taught about marriage Mat 19:4 And He answered and said to them, Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning "made them male and female",
Mar 10:6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
Mar 10:7 For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother and shall cleave to his wife
It seems to me that the Pope knows a lot about scriptures and his assessment is spot on!

While I agree with the Pope theologically, I can't help but be amazed at his lack of perspective. Countless millions are dying as a result of institutionalized poverty, including third-world debt. THESE, not abortion or homosexuality, should be the church's focus. Go ahead and be pro-life and pro-family, but please please please don't put those issues on the same footing as biggies such as systemic poverty/third world debt, environmental destruction (like poverty, a symptom of human greed), and warfare.

It seems to me he doesn't realise this is the 21st century. In the western world at least we don't stone homosexuals to death, or burn witches.
His words cause nothing but pain for real, EQUAL human beings, and in the case of many poor folk in Africa, lead to their death...Not to mention the countless unnecessary victims of aids because he STILL condemns condom usage...

I can see where he's coming from theologically: as important as the rainforests are, they're temporary, but the fate of our souls is permanent.

Still, it's an awful thing for him to say. He's revered by a billion Catholics and respected by many more Christians and people of other faiths. His words carry weight and have the potential to do real harm.

Hmm. It seems to me that an unmarried priesthood violates the verses you quoted just as much as homosexuality might.

They didn't stone homosexuals in the middle ages either, and witch burnings were rare and localized events.

There's enough disinformation in these few words to require several encyclopedias of rebuttal. The only true words in it are about the pain caused to real, equal human beings.

Hooray! The man has got it right.

Homosexual acts, adultery, fornication, and everything inbetween is exactly still what it was years ago...WRONG.

And he also has it right when he says that these things destroy us as a race because it fans moral decay.

You're right in one respect: I do think that there is a fair bit of moral decay in the idea of equating concern for the environment with worrying about the sex lives of one's neighbours.

This is not a very good argument, and it minimalizes the suffering of millions in the Inquisitions, which were not rare and localized.
Right - witches may not have been burned that often, but Jews regularly were, among others.

If you read the article, you will understand that he equates humanity as part of nature, and therefore what is good for the trees is good for us.

If we are going to protect the rainforest, which is important we ought to protect mankinds moral healt. I dont see a problem in that.

Burning witches..jews....and what has that got to do with the issue at hand.

This pope never burnt any witches or jews as far as i can remember.

He he...i would imagine that homosexual acts dont feel like suffering to those who practice them...(though i cant imagine it not to hurt).

Dont loose focus here, the pope is against homosexual acts, not against anybody in particular. Just like, im sure he wont condone adultery.

Vatican has hidden thousands of sodomites for centuries, half the priesthood are sexually deviant/alcoholic fornicator's/rapists with secret families out of wedlock.....they keep him in business.

No money in saving the rainforest,so just attack society.

Once again...there is no evidence that the pope himself is hiding any of what you have said. When these things come to light, they are dealt with. It doesnt make what these sodomites do right, and it doesnt make the homosexual act right either. I have heard that the church is taking measures to prevent these things from happening. Any organisation this big, is bound to have rotten apples in it. All organisations do. The president promises one thing and delivers another. Advertising agencies promise you one thing and deliver another. Basically everybody in way or another is getting a raw deal. The pope must account for his own sins. And so does everybody else.

Im not a stickler for organised religion, but im not going to say, just because he wears a funny hat and because the vatican is built on a dodgy site...hehe...that everybody in the organisation is corrupted. And even if the pope himself was some kind of monster....in my opinion, what he has said about homosexual acts are right. That doesnt mean i throw my support in with the catholic church, it means i throw my support in for not condoning homosexual acts.
