Oh, I forgot to mention, back until the 80s cable companies could charge you by how many TVs you had hooked up to the cable and then the government put an end to that.

This is just a say for them to do that again, instead of being by TV it's by box. Charging more for less.

Uh, MSNBC just got move from channel #31 to #183, the average joe would not look into the t.v. guide section in the newspaper to find where it got moved.

Now MSNBC is not even on basic cable, how in the hell and why did this happen?
Is this an actual serious thread topic? If they only moved MSNBC that would be a little odd, I guess. Come to think of it, I have Comcast, but I don't have MSNBC (which really doesn't matter since I never watch cable news).

I'm not sure how they organize their billing plans. For example, Disney Channel was a premium cable channel when I was a kid. Now that they are more mainstream, they are on basic cable. My suspicion would be that MSNBC can no longer pay the rates that put the more popular channels on the first tier of cable subscription plans like Comcast. They aren't exactly blooming financially right now.

My question would be whether or not this is the case on Satellite systems like Dish and DirectTV? Is MSNBC packaged with Fox News and CNN or are they separate?

The Daily Show and the Colbert Report are all any right thinking person should need. :D
What's really sad is that these are generally the only news most people ever read/watch. The jokes are only genuinely funny if you already knew the news before hearing about it on a comedy show.

With Dishnet, we get MSNBC and CNN in the basic package. We have to pay more to get Fox News.

I don't think this is politics at work but just greed.

Oh yeah... Now that you mention it, I did hear about a big push to force people into digital technology because it hasn't been selling... apparently people appear not to see enough difference in quality to justify splashing out on the "premium" service. If that's the case, it's very likely their business plan is to migrate people to digital cable by migrating their favorite channels one or two at a time.

Never been a better time to turn your telly into a fish tank!

If you guys don't like having political propaganda forced down your throats then why not just watch BBC News which takes a neutral approach to reporting. Of course it seems weird that anybody would accept any other sort of approach but there we go. Why would you want a right-wing or progressive news channel even if you agreed with their world-view?

None of these channels are driven by anything but PROFIT. We have a non-profit here in the states as well, that the left call right and the right call left. I call it PBS and it is excellent.

I watch NBC10 news because the female reporters are just plain better looking than on the other stations. Yup, I'm shallow.

There is no such thing as neutral reporting. Just like newspapers have editors that CHOOSE which articles get the front page, tv stations (no matter what moral high-ground they present themselves in) do the same thing. There is no way to prove that BBC is any different from the Cable News networks. Their content may be different, but so do local stations, which tend to run stories on how your next-door neighbor might kill you... or water.

Where the heck is the thumbs up smilie...?
I typed the post in the quick reply section where there's no smilies to click on. :D

NBC10 is on channel 10 but I watch it in hi-def on channel 232 to maximize their hotness.

Ah, we're in the same area! MSNBC was on 31 on for me, too. I didn't notice MSNBC got moved, but I did notice my CourtTV (no I won't call it truTV) got moved. I'm really bitter about that. I did notice that the channels that got moved to digital high 100s were channels not owned in some way by Comcast. Hmmmmm!

Now in the Pittsburgh and Boston areas (Pinky, this is probably why you haven't noticed a change) MSNBC was moved to digital and replaced by the Golf Channel. The Golf Channel is a subsidiary.

Some of the channels and their owners that got moved to digital...

Hallmark - Crown Media
ESPN Classic - Disney
TruTV - TimeWarner

This shouldn't really affect me as I have a digital package with Comcast... but it does. I only have one box on one TV that receives the digital channels. When I contacted Comcast to ask where the heck some of my favourite channels got moved I was informed about the change to digital and then thrown a sales pitch to buy more boxes for the other TVs in my house.

I don't think this is politics at work but just greed.

Why is MSNBC being moved in limited areas?

Why has the AP lost all of it's creditability? There was a time when an AP news story was indisputable and newspapers ran their stories unquestioned.

Why is MSNBC off the deep end to the left? They make FOX almost fair and balanced by comparison.

Why has Barrack Obama recieved 75% of the media attention?

The polls don't reflect the American people have a desire to only hear one side of things.

News has become entertainment.

The Liberal press thinks they can sway the election. That is why people still cannot believe GWB got a second term, because the news show would have us believe that the majority of the country is Liberal when that is the furthest from the truth.

Hmmmm - let's see... first non-white presidential candidate in US history, eloquent, intelligent, easy on the eyes, vs. a man whose policy and rhetoric offers no departure at all from the GOP talking points the whole world has been enduring since 2000?

I can't imagine why people find Obama more interesting....

Could it be because McCain is boring and ugly?

So you need to be entertained and aroused by the President?

McCain is the president? When did that happen? </sarcasm>

He's ugly, boring, not very eloquent or intelligent and offers no new direction for the USA... He's so dull, in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if his handlers are hiding him on purpose as a clever campaign strategy!

Actually, I find his talking points to be quite engaging. Oh, you mean the DAILY SHOW version of John McCain. Yeah, he's boring.
