We are waiting for the lucky person to actually POST something before we make a big deal about it there, but I just had to say SOMETHING, SOMEWHERE. :D This is such a HUGE mile stone for any forum! We add about 90 users a day now! Next weekend will be our "Invade the Keys" weekend, where we are expecting about 150 divers to show up to dive and party all weekend long! It should be WAY fun.

Right now, we have anywhere from a million visitors and UP every month. That is like TWICE the combined circulation of every single Dive related magazine in the world.

That's so awesome, Pete! Congratulations!! :hugehug:
When I took over, we only had about 2,000 members. We add more than that every month now. It's truly staggering to think about.

I was just informed by a certain manufacturer that I am being awarded their "Pioneer Diver" award. There are fifty pioneers being so honored and they have to be currently diving. That's all I can say right now... I think the actual announcement will be in a week or so while I am in the Keys. ScubaBoard has been such a blessing and a joy (sometimes :D ).

I think that's absolutely amazing, :rainbow1:
and you SHOULD BE bursting with happiness inside about it all.
I just love stunning success stories of the "little people".
lol. you know what I mean. :D

I hope I'm next. ;)

(Now that I have stopped "trying",
and just focused on reaching others in my majik/music...
I can see the Sentient Universe just sort of transforming the rest.
All we really need to do is be our best... truest self... and reach out in that.
I rather sense this is your own story as well.)

I fully agree. If I can do this, then ANYONE can.
I hope I'm next. ;)
Me too!

In reality, the best way to grow a forum is to give people JUST what they want. Be responsive and don't over moderate. There have been at least a dozen forums that have been launched off of ScubaBoard. Some were done for financial reasons, and others because they were pissedat me. I don't see any of them as competition and I surely don't ever talk bad about them. Still, most of them are content to copy my style and structure to the point that they have confused my peeps and advertisers at times. There have been a couple of sights I have censored from ScubaBoard, but for the most part we talk about what my users want to talk about.

I wasn't referring just to your forum success though,
I meant ALL of it.
All of this grew from your PERSONAL love for and emmursion in Scuba Diving.
You do what you love, you do it to excellence, and you share it with others.
The forum, as awesome as that is, is only a small part of a much bigger picture that is your life.

Thanks so much for the kind words. I have often corrected people when they indicate that I "own" ScubaBoard. I tell that that I own the domain name, and NOT the community. No one can truly ever own a community and it would be stupid to assert that. ScubaBoard is far bigger than I am or ever will be. It has really changed the way that many people dive and also the way the Scuba Manufacturers relate to the diving public. It's a study in how to be successful with a .Com 2.0 venture.

Congrats Scuba Pete,

These don't sound like religious dives however, LOL
Diving is incredibly spiritual. There you are: floating through space. You can't talk, so you have to think. You are deep in a hostile and alien environment, so you have to think some more. My senses are heightened during a dive. Then you see stuff like this (from the ScubaBoard gallery and NOT my pics except for the last one):

From the "For What it's Worth" department. I am down in Lauderdale by the Sea for the next few days as we get ready for our annual "Invade the Keys" Diving Par-tay! I say this, as I may not be on as much and might miss someone yelling at me and I want to share a few numbers. :D We now have a 129 people registered for our "roasted pig" party on Saturday night. I would love to see us break 150 this year. We are commandeering at least 6 boats (sold out) one hotel and part of another. If you are near us and want to come to the party, PM me for details on how to get in on this. You will find that ScubaBoard people are just like RF people, only wetter. :D

Friend Scuba Pete,
As mentioned earlier:
Every milestone adds more resposibilities.
The reponsibility is towards Humanity and existence.
The subject of Underwater is just about scratching the surface and be prepared to get hotter over the years.
man is yet to explore the underwater in a big way and it also needs to be saved from getting exploited or polluted which adds up the reponsibilties that you have.
Besides the popuklation explosion , energy needs etc are areas that humans are looking towards the oceans to supplement such needs. We are already exploring * deveolping energy from WAVES* besides prospecting for gas, petroleum, minerals etc.
Wishing you all the best.
Love & rgds
