U.S. Muslims and Mormons share deepening ties

The LDS Church is always extending a hand of friendship to other religions. In the Spanish Fork, Utah, area, the Church donated money towards a chapel for the Baha'i people (not sure of the religion, but something similar). So I'm not surprised to see friendliness towards the Muslims.

I don't see any reason to read anything suspicious or negative into it. Friendliness is a good thing.

good for the LDS but have you ever heard of the Saudis or anyone elsefor that matterfrom the islamic world donating for a christian church, in fact chrisianity is banned in saudi, in Islam you are a heretic and under sharia you could face death, so the suspician as far as i am concerned is from any muslim who sees a similarity in an LDS minister and an imam is lying, your faiths are inconsolable, diametrically opposite nothing in common except the claim that your faith decends from Abraham, and make no mistake theirs stops at muhamed

you seem to have some serious misconceptions about islam.
it is very logical for mormons and muslims to get along. their books both teach to be good, love God, love your neighbor, and do righteous good deeds, help the poor and things of that nature. basically the same stuff jesus, who was muslim, taught in the gospels.
here is what the quran says in 2:62 "Those who believe (in the Qur'an), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians and the Sabians,- any who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve."
so a muslim who follows the quran, and a mormon would have a lot in common, even the prejudice they feel projected from a largely misinformed and prejudiced amerikkka. there is nothing in the quran or the teachings of any prophet of islam that says someone should be killed or even injured in any way just for following a different religious path. it, in fact, says the opposite as you read above, it says God will reward them if they believe in God and the last day and do good.
adam was the first prophet of islam, muhammad was the 'prophet like unto moses' prophesized in the torah, the seal of the prophets of islam.

can you back up any of your anti-islamic thoughts with references from the quran or the bible (without taking things out of context)? or are you just making up lies about islam based on what you see as the actions of someone you believe is a muslim?
muhammad, just like many prophets, taught that in the end times there will be very few who actually hold to the teachings of their prophet(s), so saying saudi arabia does this or that has nothing to do with islam, and their interpretation of sharia law is not necessarily islam either. saudi is known to be an oppressive country, with armed american soldiers in the streets.

utter nonsense !how would you reconcile yourself in their further revelations after mohamed,or their view of Isa, its not prejudice but a different religion, dont you know that , what do you know about LDS beleif and how do you reconcile your beleifs with theirs, would you go to a LDS church service for example?
God has a body that looks like yours, though His body is immortal, perfected, and has a glory beyond description. He knows you personally and loves you more than you can comprehend. To help you find happiness in this life and guide you to return to live with Him, Heavenly Father provided a plan called the gospel? of Jesus Christ, a guide based on the life and teachings of His Son, Jesus Christ.

you are OK with that

After centuries of spiritual darkness, a restoration? of truth was needed. Under the Direction of our Heavenly Father, the gospel of Jesus Christ was restored on the earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith. God has promised it will never be taken from His children again.

and that?

There is no doubt that Christians and Jews are "peoples of the Book." As such they have automatic acceptance in Islam even if they hold quaint notions that are not Qur'anic.

You may speak for yourself,.. but do not presume that your belief and associated religious conviction of opposing Koranic revelation is representative of the Jewish and Christian faithful.

.
Sura 29:45
"Argue not, unless in a kindly way, with the Jews (the people of the Book); except with any of them who have treated you wrongly: and say, 'We believe in what hat been sent down to us and in what has been sent down to you. Our God and your God is one and the same, and to him do we surrender ourselves as Muslims.'"

Kai,

Sometimes what you might say for yourself is better said by somjeone else:
"
A fundamental teaching of Bahá'u'lláh is the oneness of the world of humanity. Addressing mankind, He says: "Ye are all leaves of one tree and the fruits of one branch." By this it is meant that the world of humanity is like a tree, the nations or peoples are the different limbs or branches of that tree and the individual human creatures are as the fruits and blossoms thereof. In this way His Holiness Bahá'u'lláh expressed the oneness of humankind whereas in all religious teachings of the past, the human world has been represented as divided into two parts, one known as the people of the Book of God or the pure tree and the other the people of infidelity and error or the evil tree. The former were considered as belonging to the faithful and the others to the hosts of the irreligious and infidel; one part of humanity the recipients of divine mercy and the other the object of the wrath of their Creator. His Holiness Bahá'u'lláh removed this by proclaiming the oneness of the world of humanity and this principle is specialized in His teachings for He has submerged all mankind in the sea of divine generosity. Some are asleep; they need to be awakened. Some are ailing; they need to be healed. Some are immature as children; they need to be trained. But all are recipients of the bounty and bestowals of God. " Abdu'l Baha, Bahai World Faith, pp. 245-248

There's a nuance here that you are missing, Kai.

Joseph Smith did not REVEAL the Book of Mormon or the Pearl of Great Price. Instead he translated books that were supposedly revealede BEFORE Muhammed. That means Smith is making no claim to proclaiming a new revelation at all.

Baha`i's on the other hand come out and announ ce that Baha`u'llah IS a new revelation after Muhammed.

Joseph Smith is by his own proclamation proclaiming Christ, not a new prophet at all.

thanks for that correction Scott

although
Smith reported that, in 1820 at the age of 14, he experienced a theophany, an appearance of God to man, or a divine disclosure, most commonly referred to by Latter Day Saints as the First Vision. Smith recorded several accounts of the vision later in life.[4] The version which is most well-known and read was published in 1838.[5]
Smith was concerned as to the correct church to join, and went to a grove of trees to pray. According to the most well-known version, when he did, he had a vision where he saw God the Father and his Son, Jesus Christ, appear to him as two separate, glorious, resurrected beings (in other accounts, they are described as heavenly beings). They told him that none of the churches established at the time were correct, and that he should join none of them.[6]

wiki
Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery stated that they were later visited by Peter, James, and John, the disciples of Christ found in the New Testament, not long after the appearance of John the Baptist. According to Smith and Cowdery, Peter, James and John came to them in order to restore the Melchizedek priesthood, which they said contained the necessary authority to restore Christ's church.

The sequence goes like this,..
Judaism is the Abrahamic tradition,..period...no more revelation!
Christianity accepts the Abrahamic tradition, but adds on the revelation of Jesus,...period...no more revelation!
Islam accepts the Abrahamic and Jesus tradition, but adds on the Mohamed revelation,...period...no more revelation!
LSD accepts the Abrahamic and Jesus tradition (Islam had no presence in America at the time of its genesis), but adds on the revelation of Joseph Smith,...period..no more revelation.

I am not quite sure why you are asking me about the revelation of Joseph Smith

Yet you're both missing the fact that Smith's "revelation" is not his own but simply translating books that were written before and during Christ's Revelation. Therefore it is not a new revelation at all, and Smith is at most a minor Prophet of Jesus, no more than Timothy, John, Peter, Paul, etc..

The revelation Smith offered is a time capsule from before Muhammed. That makes Joseph Smith one of the people of the Book.

The Koran makes clear that the revelation is unique to the indigenous peoples of that part of the world.
That Islam has spread beyond the semite speaking peoples to the wider world is another subject.
The Book of Mormon revelation was also unique to the peoples of America.
That LDS has spread beyond America to the wider world is another subject.

Religion is not a competition, it is about discovering the source and purpose of existence.

i get what you are saying , but that does not give them a basis to deepen ties, just the opposite in fact. this people of the book thing is nonsense a fairy tale, they have different faiths and i say, (as you know) different gods.

I understand that this is a thread about mormon and muslim ties,...and the tie is Oneness,..God absolute.

Unless you are saying that there are two Gods,..ohhh then there would be star wars!

Wrong. Perhaps you ought to stick to talking about a religion you're familiar with. We believe in continuing revelation and have had fifteen prophets since Joseph Smith.
