Your favorite current apostle

nutshell

Well-Known Member
As I've watched General Conference this weekend, I realized I have a new "favorite" apostle. Of course, I think they're all great, but in terms of speaking, I have a new favorite.

It's President Uctdorf. His talks have been wonderful - I especially liked the priesthood session last night. He tells good stories and makes excellent analogies. In many ways, I think he's like the "new Monson." :)

Who is your favorite general authority speaker?

Defninitely Utchdorf and Monson by far. I have always loved president Monson.

Joseph B Wirthlin is also an amazing speaker. it is unofrtunate we will not have him for too much longer.

President Uchtdorf and President Monson are my favorites. President Uchtdorf has been my favorite General Authority since I heard him speak at a Regional Conference in Hamburg while I was a missionary.

My favorites for a while now have been Eyring and Oaks. I discovered how much I liked Oaks when I started listening to old BYU devotional addresses. He's got some very good talks that can be found there.

Uchtdorf sure is growing on me though :) I have really enjoyed Elder Bednar's talks too (including some from the aforementioned "old BYU Devotional addresses". I'm watching an address he gave to BYU-Idaho as I type).

If I had to pick one as a favorite, it would be Pres. Eyring. If I have to choose from the Quorum, it would be Oaks with Bednar coming in second.

Yeah, i totalyl agree that Oaks is a very powerful speaker. they all are. it is because they "speak with the voice of angels to shake the whole earth".

It is not just them speaking, but it is the Lord speaking through them which is why they always touch my heart and leave me with an everlasting impression as to the truth and sincerety of thier words.

I love them all

Well, he's certainly easy on the eyes! I missed the Priesthood session (okay, I wasn't invited ;) ) but I really liked his talk this morning.

Who is your favorite general authority speaker?
M. Russell Ballard. I love how he is such a great ambassador for the Church and how he always says things that help build bridges between the LDS and traditional Christian communities. Dallin Oaks is another favorite, since he occasionally gets into some of the "meatier" issues. You know, more substance, less fluff than some of the others. I generally really learn something entirely new to me when he speaks.

In October you should borrow one of your husband's suits and hide out in the back of the Chapel ;)

I am currently reading a compilation of some of his discourses. After that, I have his book "The Lord's Way" in the queue. From what I've heard, that one has a bit of "meat" in it. I'm looking forward to it.

Pres. Eyring. But I'm biased, because he used to be my college president, and he reminds me of my brother--tall, dark, and lanky. I would also add Elder Bednar, Elder Oaks, and Elder Holland. Sometimes it just depends on who's talk hit a chord with me that day.

Side note: Imagine how surreal it must be for Pres. Monson--after decades of being in the shadow of other presidents; now everyone is revering him.

I'm not sure I'm enjoying Hollands talk right now: Just seems like fodder for the anti's and evangelicals. Debating whether the canon is closed or not is like debating abortion.

I forgot about Elder Holland. I always like his talks.

Speaking of President Uchtdorf, anyone else notice that he put intolerance and pornography in the same list of sins during priesthood session last night?

Well, I really liked it. (Pretty predictable, huh.) He's addressing one of the big public issues of the Church.

I guess my problem is all the anti's will now be posting and criticizing his talk line by line. This happened last conference too. I guess I can't deny that it must benefit those who have a misunderstanding of the Church and are not anti that would benefit.

I'm not sure what they could say really. It didn't seem to me like anything for anybody to get real worked up over. To me, it mostly just seemed like he was defending our position on latter-day revelation. Even though we don't hear all that many defense-of-the-faith talks by General Authorities, he didn't really say anything that hasn't been said before. (Unless I missed something. If you can think of anything that might set people off, what was it?)

Well, I'll check the other forum I sometimes visit and see if they've jumped on it yet. I hope you're right.
