Children

Yeah has always annoyed me too.

People do it to older people as well.

Why do we always have to define ourselves through what separates us from others? Why can't we focus on what we all have in common instead?
Not normally shown, but children are EXTREMELY sensetive to these sorts of things, i hate it when we are treated as inferiors. Wisdom can show years before you turn grey;)

Better to get them banned otherwise you are feeding the stereotype that spawned them in the first place.

Make sure you remember how it felt when you become an adult. Too many seem to forget it or see it as "childish" rather than giving it the respect it deserves.

I dont think that helps, its not liek we are graffiting it, or wrecking it.

You've just demonstrated one of the problems with some youth.

Thank you.
Hell, I'd do it. The damn things operate at 85 friggin decibels and are not too different from rodent repellents. And I can hear the damn things.

Edit: To penguino, most of them are variable frequency devices. If they aren't you can swap out some capacitors to raise the frequency level so everybody can hear it. Or just turn a few lugs on the inside.

You get a better effect if everybody hears the thing. Normally, all it takes is a screw driver. Or just open it up and snip a few wires. The majority of people have no idea how to fix electronics. The owner will just be confused as to why its not working. There was one on the street corner where I lived. They removed it after over 40 people complained.
Why did everybody complain? I switched the operating frequency.

You're right. The problem with adults is that they don't want youth to break the property of others.

A classic adults, we are parasites, we need leashes to be kept away from all places, heck while your at it, kill all kids and replace us with robots.

:clap i applaud your forward thinking attitude.

I never asserted any of the above.

I simply stated that expressing that you would destroy another's property if given the opportunity was demonstrative of the problem.

There is no need to destroy anything, it should not even be there, i understand if there are children that destroy things, i know people who are like that, i understna,d but bby booting them (fair) they are booting us, the ones who don't do anything (unfair) The government need to come up with a better, a fairer solution which does not treat us like mosquitos, as yoss said.

Thats great. Makes you think, a teenager can do that and not an adult, they did it in a peaceful, non-rebellious manner, makes you think, doesen't it? Who has more sense sometimes?

:biglaugh:Oh, the humanity!
Actually, Nutshell is correct, but he didn't go far enough. No-one should be destroying anyone elses property, regardless of their age. If you'd like to interpret that as a call to kill or banish all the kiddies and replace them with robots, then you go right ahead. At least it's proving the point that some kids and some adults most certainly think on the same level.:p

Actually, it makes far more sense that someone who can hear it would do it, because why would anyone who can't hear the thing bother? If they can't hear it, it's entirely likely the majority aren't even aware it's there. It's unlikely adults are breaking them either, for the same reason. So the difference is actually between a person who thinks of the best way to deal with something, and a person who thinks the best way to deal with something is just to break it. That isn't age dependant.
They had some success here keeping a troublesome sector of youth from loitering and causing trouble in a few places by playing classical music, from memory. Didn't help with those unruly concert band kids though, with their trumpet and violin based thuggery.

I don't have a particular problem with either adults or children. Just for the heck of it... I am 21. Which category do I fall under?

Anyways, I have met 30-80 year olds that act like dramatized little 4 year olds, and I have met 18 year olds and under that act like they are 40 yrs old. One of my best friends in high school was more mature than both of her parents. Age doesn't mean too horribly much. An adult can have a ton of experiences throughout thier life thier child hasn't experienced yet, but not learn anything or gain anything from any of it. While a child might not have had as many experiences yet, but has retained and learned lessons from each one so far, thus exceeding what the adult has gained. I have seen it all too much. And I have to deal with immature adults ALL day at my job... so....

that's my take on it.

I have recently seen a couple of threads, solely to attack the new generation, what's going on? Is there a secret plan to wipe kids out? It disgusts me that certain people have such a stereotypical view of us teenagers and kids.

Are we really that disgusting?

Thanks in advance:)

While that may be overstated, I agree that an anti-child sentiment does exist in our society. I'm not sure if I can precisely define what that is and who's in on it. But to an extent, children aren't looked upon very favorably. How much of that is a recent trend or a product of the ages, I do not know.

One thing I do know, however, is that I completely fed up with the phrase, "The Greatest Generation." Don't get me wrong, I have the utmost respect for a generation who can make it through the Great Depression AND the last (official) world war. But it is a slap in the face to have such a positive label for them and the negative "Generation X" label for those a generation-and-a-half label. Puh-lease, people are partly byproducts of the environment they are born into.

And that's just the thing we have to understand. IMO, children should hold very little, if any, of the blame for the pampering of our youth. Hell, would *you* say no to all those nifty gadgets and designer clothes? Frankly, I'm not convinced parents deserve all the blame either. Although I certainly think they have a responsibility to educate their children on the need not to become greedy, our society as a whole has the responsibility not to allow such conditions to come about. And this burden falls squarely on those who are continuously intensifying the culture of greed in America--the corporations.

I'm gonna guess those posts are mostly about the USA and I can relate to it in a way but the rest of the world is much different and I assure you its not the generation it is just a group.

I would imagine that. I have heard that America basically stands alone as a culture who gives its adolescents few, if any, community responsibilities. People, they're basically young adults, and it was not until the 20th century that they were thought of as "teenagers." Why are we treating them like big kids and then getting all upset when they behave like big kids?

I have 3 children, ages 15, 12, and 10. They are the light of my life. :) Some teens can be very kind. The ones that are not get all the attention.

Ever noticed on the news they wont see the young lad openin the door for the old lady, or giving p their seat? You won't its boring. You WILL see pregnants 11 year olds and little rebels who think they are hard. You won't see the good majority, unless you go around and witness it, thats why there is such a view on children nowadays.

Great points, and there's another institution fueling the fire: The corporate American media. As you said, we never hear about the 16-year-old girl who has to work 5 hours a day to raise her two younger brothers, because her mom's on crack. We never hear about the adolescent man who spends his Friday afternoons volunteering his time and effort at the local retirement center. No, we just hear about the tiny percentage of those who act like morons. And it is time for that to cease.

Kids are evil. If people would just stop having kids for say, two or three generations, most of the worlds problems would be solved.

I think the main problem is that people tend to forget their experiences as a kid. As people grow up, there world and views change, and, just as they look at other cultures or religions, they look at different age groups only through their own point of view. Personally I'm very conscious of this tendency, and fight it all the time.

I'm 28, so I'm not far removed from my youth. I'm at the point where I just got married, and most of my friends are married, and a couple of them have had kids in the past two years. So, I find myself moving into that older mentality, and looking at younger generations the way many older people do. However, I'm conscious of it, and stay in touch with my immature side enough to realize that they're only doing things that I once did, and that most adults once did.

Kids do a lot of bad and stupid things, and that's never going to change. But, just like people need to be more open to other points of view when it comes to culture and religion, they need to keep their minds open to the plight of the youth.
