What's the best way to deal with sexual desire? Should you try to repress it? Find an outlet for it? Simply understand it? Or take some other path to dealing with it? Why?

The best way is to cram it into a package built by and for someone else's sexual desire.

Why do you hate America, Brendan?

Which is precisely what everything from consumerism to some religious figures tell us to do.

Is there a difference?
Ouch!

I think there are two sides to sex. The way I see it, sex is just a physical metaphor of a relationship. Good sex is when two people are trying to satisfy the other person. Bad sex is when both people are trying to get what they want from the other person. It's just like relationships.

And of course, prostitution is getting what you want for a price tag.

Who doesn't pay for sex?

By accepting that sexual desire is a part of the human experience, and is to be enjoyed or repressed according to the individual.

I wouldn't suggest repression, however. But that's me.

Indulgence, of course. If circumstances conspire to prevent indulgence, we could resort to fantasizing. But if we are not very imaginative, fantasizing is subject to the law of diminishing returns. Do not seek to repress sexual desires - if it disturbs you for any reason, seek to understand it. Then it would no longer be a problem.

If we're talking about THOSE sexual desires, I think that their fleeting nature is evidence of their value. If we indulged in EVERY human impulse, civilization would cease to exist.

I have to agree with that. Sexual desire is a natural things and if there was none there would not be anyone around at all.

But we'd all be a bunch of happy savages.

Done here.
The best way to deal with hunger is to eat. The best way to deal with thirst is to drink. The best way to deal with curiosity is to learn. The best way to deal with sexual desire is to find somebody with a complementary desire and help each other out.

What's worse, if we indulged every human impulse, we'd never get laid. Most people can have all the sex they want to have and still find time to hold down a job, though.

I'm confused. I consider the phrase "indulging every human impulse" to mean "giving in" to simple desires, be it anger, lust, etc.
