I Like Mike

I wanted to say that I am a huge fan of Mike Huckabee, and I notice that a lot of people on this forum don't really understand what he stands for. So if you have any questions or comments about him I'd love to discuss.

A few things:
- his primary concerns are Education, Energy, and the Environment
- he doesn't support timetables for withdrawal from the Middle East
- he supports the Fair Tax (elimination of Income Tax and the IRS, replaced with a flat 18% sales tax)
- he's been a successful governor (the closest job in responsibilities to the Presidency) for 10 1/2 years
- he's a social conservative and has a track record of attaining bi-partisan support

The things people don't like about him:
- he's a strong Christian
- he used to be a pastor

The reasons why people don't like him is far more than just "he's a strong Christian and he used to be a pastor." Huckabee has expressly stated that he wants to rewrite the Constitution to fit his religious ideas, something that not only is a direct violation of church/state separation, but also repugnant to lots of people.

I like Mike too! Especially abolishing the IRS. The fact of the matter is Mike is unelectable.

Huckabee: Because he is a strong religious candidate.
Romney: Same reason
Obama: Because he is black
Hillary: Because she is a woman

John McCain will be our next President, because he is none of the above, watch and see.

Do you actually think he believes that? Come on, man. I know exactly which quote you are referring to, and you need to watch out where you get your information from. That quote was in regards SPECIFICALLY to his stance on abortion. This has nothing to do with some sort of theocratic agenda.

If McCain gets elected, it will be because he is the candidate that is best wooing independents, not for the reasons you describe above.

I'm not sure if it's better that a Christian or a non-Christian destroys our country. Note that the economy is not one of his concerns, particularly ending or even addressing poverty.

This single issue gives me the impression that he's almost too stupid to function. Being a "successful" gov does not impress me, particularly when the kind of people who like him are so easily impressed - the evangelicals who support him only need a racist homophobe who is against abortion.

Here's just a few things that stick out about Huckabee that some people (such as myself) have issues with:

Quoting Huckabee here:

My faith is my life - it defines me. My faith doesn't influence my decisions, it drives them. For example, when it comes to the environment, I believe in being a good steward of the earth. I don't separate my faith from my personal and professional lives.

I support and have always supported passage of a federal constitutional amendment that defines marriage as a union between one man and one woman. As President, I will fight for passage of this amendment. My personal belief is that marriage is between one man and one woman, for life.

What I accomplished as Governor proves that there is a lot more that a pro-life President can do than wait for a Supreme Court vacancy, and I will do everything I can to promote a pro-life agenda and pass pro-life legislation. If I'm saddled with a Democrat Congress, I'll veto any pro-abortion legislation they pass. I will staff all relevant positions with pro-life appointees.

With respect to stem cells, I am opposed to research on embryonic stem cells.

I fink Huckabee to be very personable and likable and I agree with him on a few issues. He has a lot of terrible ideas though as well and the apparent lack of separation of his religious creeds from his obligations as an elected government official is more than a little disturbing.

But McCain will pick him for VP and then he'll be a Hucka-hucka burnin' love.

That would be political suicide for McCain.

Everyone lusts for the evangelical vote, but not at the cost of everything else.
