*Couldn't think of a better thread title, and perhaps not best for what I'm getting at.
I think if spirituality/religious claims have to answer to scientific evidence, and inquiries, that science ought to have to (constantly) answer to spiritual/philosophical inquiries. Curious what others think about this?
I see science, at its foundation, depending on faith. That's fine, in my book. It works well after that is accepted as understood (or even as fact). The faith I speak of is that the...
Heres a scripture that describes salvation in the bible.
Romans 10:9-10 - That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (Read More...)
The born again movement started in the 60s according to my grandmother who was born and raised up in the Baptist church. My Mom was too.
The Baptist and Community churches, nondenominational and many bible churches teach that responding to an alter...
I deconverted from Catholicism because I stopped believing in the supernatural, realized that the Bible was fallible, and discovered that I was an LGBT person. However, since my deconversion, I've had lots of internal conflict over religion. It has significantly decreased lately, but it's still there to an extent.
For the past few weeks, I've continually shifted between atheism and Christianity. Additionally, I've been reading Mere Christianity by CS Lewis and The God Delusion by Richard...
We experience the waking world. Enjoy some and then get tired. Go to sleep, often dreaming and see own-self playing or crying or ... and then go to deep sleep, losing touch with bodily self (waking gross body or dreaming light body). Then we wake up again. And the cycle continues.
How the same "I" continues through this cycle? Why I do not come up as Sunstone, enjoying erotic dances (and dancers)?
Forgive me if Im asking or saying this wrong. I dont want a debate over clarification and Ps and Qs.
I wonder if "some" western religious (christianity is an eastern religion so Im looking at worldviews on both sides of the globe) are the only ones who see "magic" or supernatual separate from the natual world while those of us 90% of the world see the whole view without differientiating between supernatual and natual. There is no dividing line.
I wonder if our ten percent are the ones...
No, I'm sorry, but they aren't. I have no idea where this idea could have come from other then poor reasoning or ignorance of psychology. The entire concept of there being or not being a god is abstract, and requires abstract reasoning. An object that cannot think about such questions, such as plants, would never be considered atheists with intellectual honesty. Yet babies are the same way, entirely mechanistic and bound to conditioning et al, unable to even understand that their parents can...
Sorry, I might post a few ideas I've been sharing elsewhere (which drove me to remember the one forum that actually matters for this stuff), do bear with me!
Why can I, as a theist, not simply say "I lack a belief in a godless universe" or "I lack a belief in materialism", anything of the sort? I've never liked the claim that an atheist lacks a belief. On both sides you have people making the call on god or no god based on experience, reason, and evidence. Put these behind a currently...
