Ten Things about the NRA You Almost Never Hear About

What is your image of the NRA? How did you come to those conclusions?
I am a lifetime member but this is no membership drive nor am I selling anything, it is strictly to relay information about the NRA that many people may not know and will provide links to some of the programs they (we the members) support. As a long time member I can honestly say that there were a few occasions when reading their information I had to groan a little but the bottom line is is that the NRA is probably the most powerful political organization out there that is actively lobbying/working to preserve my 2nd Amendment rights and the political organization that Hillary Clinton declared war on . Question! If the NRA is for gun control, why are they so vocal about keeping AR-15s around? Genuine curiosity, not trying to muddle the discussion.

If I may . . . in the 10 Surprising Facts About the NRA That You Never Hear link it says

10. Current stance on gun Control

The NRA's current stance on gun control is to enforce existing laws more aggressively. In 2008, in response to the Virgina Tech shooting, the NRA helped to pass the "NICS Improvement Act," which would provide increased funding and grants to states to report vital information to the National Instant Background Check System (NICS), such as mental health. The NICS is used for background checks of potential gun buyers. Unfortunately, the system has been woefully underfunded (receiving only 5.3% of the authorized funding) and reporting has been lackluster. In addition, the NRA has pointed out that those who lie on their background checks when purchasing firearms are for the most part not prosecuted. In response to this, Vice President Biden claimed that they "don't have the time" to prosecute such violations, which, by the way, carries a minimum 5 year federal sentence, if convicted under the Gun Control Act of 1968.
I highlighted the above to show that the only gun control laws the NRA feels are acceptable are those already in place. And they acquiesce to these only because it's politically expedient. As for passing a law banning AR-15s, no way. They don't want any new laws that might restrict the sale and possession of any firearms. For one thing, they're extremely afraid that once that door is opened the easier it may be to pass additional gun control laws. The NRA exists in a constant state of fear. A fear so overpowering that it immediately strikes out at the least provocation. This is why one will often see it waving its banners of protest at the most insignificant hint of gun control. It fears it can't afford any crack in the wall at all. I always figured that a dose of Viagra would go a long way in relieving the pressure. But taking Viagra would be a self admission of . . .

This is a confused statement. Hillary is opposed to the NRA. They might be the most powerful lobby fighting for violence.
But that is not the same as Hillary declaring war on the 2nd amendment, which isn't clear in your statement. She is fine with the 2nd amendment, but not the NRA's interpretation of it.

The NRA has declared war on the Democrats. Hillary is one of them. She will fight back.

Just using it as the hot topic example that is usually covered by the media.

I'd say you just answered your own question :)
"Usually covered by the media" translates into whatever flavour/outrage of the month they are selling, at least to me anyway.

The NRA should be considered to be a subversive organization that puts power and money far ahead of what's good for the country and for our citizens. Go to the south side of Chicago and then tell us how all these guns are making us safer.

BTW, colleges and universities here in the States on the average are experiencing an overall drop in attendance largely because foreign students are less willing to take a chance on coming here because of all the mass killings. My guess is that it's also affecting tourism even though I haven't seen any recent stats on that.

Tell me how an organization that has always supported the legal use and possession of firearms by law abiding citizens and the vigorous enforcement of existing laws has made this country more dangerous.

By vehemently opposing sensible restrictions on guns.
Frankly, I don't even think the main goal of the main supporters of the NRA has anything to do with guns or the 2nd amendment.
The politicians they oppose or support have a lot more in common than that.

If I opposed minimum wage increases, giving to the NRA would be very efficient. Because the same political campaigners trying to rein in gun violence also tend to support living wages. This is true for many issues. From abortion or gay rights, to fracking and private prisons, the same people tend towards similar goals.

By fighting almost every sensible proposal to make guns harder for some elements to get through vigorous vetting at the federal level, fighting legislation to move to "smart guns", allowing semi-automatics with enough power to go through walls, pushing to allow for plastic guns, etc.

I'm 71 years of age, but I have to tell you a story that involved my father about 30 years ago, who used to be a proud member of the NRA-- until he visited a gun show just outside of Miami. When he saw what kind of guns were being sold and who was all too easily buying them, he took his NRA card, cut it into pieces, mailed it to the NRA and literally told them where they should stuff it.

Again, power and profits have been and still is the NRA's main "mission", not the well-being of the country. I've been involved in way too many threads on this, and I've looked at the research for decades now, and we have many examples whereas countries and communities have taken step to lower the number of violent crimes, such as what the U.K. and France did in the 1950's+, plus what the Aussies did a bit over a decade ago.

If you want to argue that, do the research first, but I really don't have any interest in beating a dead horse.

Of course you don't because you made ridiculous claims that I asked you to back up and you couldn't.
I did back it up.
You ignored that. And you ignored the questions I asked you.
That is why I don't find your assessment of the NRA particularly credible.
