Just thought I would post some easy to access online articles from reputable sources trying to analyze and discover why universities squeeze their students so hard, where all the money goes, etc. This seems relevant to certain discussions about religion where education versus religion comes up. I give a little preface to each article and what its about.
Guardian article about how university entrance is rigged, meaning that while the most desire-able universities claim equal access for new students and that entrance competition is based upon non-financial matters they actually are hypocritical about this -- at the highest levels. The same universities teach academic honesty and proclaim it as a virtue, actually adjudicating students for acts of dishonesty yet promote dishonesty when it suits the university.

This online Chicago Press journal article attempts to finger the reasons why universities continue to squeeze students into financial oblivion despite many moral reasons not to do so. Its fascinating and discloses the fraudulent nature of the "Anti corruption industry" which covers for university financial games and has a decent bibliography attached.

This Huffpost article doesn't go so much into depth on what enables corruption however calls universities a ponzi scheme. It that debt forgiveness will only send the signal to universities that further student debt will also be forgiven, thus potentially worsening rather than ameliorating problems. It proposes no counter argument and is not written in such a way that we can find its sources, but its interesting, online, accessible.

It receives funding from Koch industries among others, and unsurprisingly is somewhat fiscally conservative in its discussions. Like the Huffpost article it accuses universities of being ponzi schemes. It concludes "Until we see deans of inclusion and belonging on the unemployment lines, we will know that colleges continue to abuse their economic and reputational privileges." (implying forever, that universities will forever abuse their economic and reputational privileges) Its lacking on bibliography and is not actually a journal but a magazine, but it makes persuasive statements.
