I not sure why people think that marriage is the greatest choice in life to begin with. It's not like people take relationships all that seriously nowadays.

Personally, all of the evidence I've seen points to it being a cruel and archaic practice not suited for the modern world. After reading this article, it seems that it creates a great deal of regret and sadness in many young women. But, what are the benefits? Why does it still go on after so long? Is the reasoning based on nothing but adherence to tradition?
Actually, the archaic American attitude toward sex and nudity isn't much different. Certainly not nearly as troubling as the child-bride problem, but both have their roots in the twisted social mores of a country. But perhaps a better comparison would be America's unhealthy love of firearms and it's tolerance of gun related crime.
