Ten Things about the NRA You Almost Never Hear About

If I may . . . in the 10 Surprising Facts About the NRA That You Never Hear link it says

10. Current stance on gun Control

The NRA's current stance on gun control is to enforce existing laws more aggressively. In 2008, in response to the Virgina Tech shooting, the NRA helped to pass the "NICS Improvement Act," which would provide increased funding and grants to states to report vital information to the National Instant Background Check System (NICS), such as mental health. The NICS is used for background checks of potential gun buyers. Unfortunately, the system has been woefully underfunded (receiving only 5.3% of the authorized funding) and reporting has been lackluster. In addition, the NRA has pointed out that those who lie on their background checks when purchasing firearms are for the most part not prosecuted. In response to this, Vice President Biden claimed that they "don't have the time" to prosecute such violations, which, by the way, carries a minimum 5 year federal sentence, if convicted under the Gun Control Act of 1968.
I highlighted the above to show that the only gun control laws the NRA feels are acceptable are those already in place. And they acquiesce to these only because it's politically expedient. As for passing a law banning AR-15s, no way. They don't want any new laws that might restrict the sale and possession of any firearms. For one thing, they're extremely afraid that once that door is opened the easier it may be to pass additional gun control laws. The NRA exists in a constant state of fear. A fear so overpowering that it immediately strikes out at the least provocation. This is why one will often see it waving its banners of protest at the most insignificant hint of gun control. It fears it can't afford any crack in the wall at all. I always figured that a dose of Viagra would go a long way in relieving the pressure. But taking Viagra would be a self admission of . . .

.

That didn't take long.

This is a confused statement. Hillary is opposed to the NRA. They might be the most powerful lobby fighting for violence.
But that is not the same as Hillary declaring war on the 2nd amendment, which isn't clear in your statement. She is fine with the 2nd amendment, but not the NRA's interpretation of it.
Actually, the fact that she says shes fine with the 2nd, doesn't mean she actually is.
Her proposed hefty taxation guns & ammo are at odds with that. And this is only
what she admits to. Who knows what more extreme measures she might spring
upon us once she gets the top job?
If gov heavily taxed speech, certainly everyone would say this is anti-1st Amendment.

We can always count on the anti-gun crowd to make it about the size of a willie.
They never acknowledge that women use guns too.
But we never hear about how that's a Freudian cry for a bigger hoo hah.
Sexism?

Right. Don't understand the preoccupation with male genitalia anytime anyone brings up the subject of second amendment. Oh well.

When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.

What a great solution, then we can identify and arrest all the outlaws.

Why didn't we think of that a long time ago?

Does anyone remember how pro-gun control the NRA was when the Black Panthers were around? I guess black people with guns should be restricted but white guys ... they're fine?

Not necessarily the Second Amendment at all, but if the gun nuts stopped compensating for their sexual insecurity by stockpiling every fire arm they can get their hands on there'd likely be no issue. It's primarily because of their need for guns and their fear they might loose them (castration complex? ;)) that gun owners have forced the issue into the limelight. Think cartoons such as the following spring up for no reason?

They've sprung up because coveting and drooling over guns is a well recognized pathology.

From an article in Buzzflash

"You won't find anyone willing to dare say it much in the media, but a good percentage of the white men who oppose gun control of any sort – and who back measures that would even allow alleged terrorists and straw purchases for drug dealers to buy guns – are just afraid that without their guns, their phallic power will be reduced to size.

You can feel at least temporarily reassured when a long-barreled assault weapon compensates for just another average manhood; it's an irresistible testosterone high to the beleaguered white male.

Call this Freudian psychobabble analysis, but when you add it into the mix of just angry white males who want their guns to show that they are still top dog on the political, social and marital hierarchy, you got a good percentage of the psychologically needy gun owners. A gun, particularly assault weapons and lethal militarized handguns, are at least two things: a prosthetic [penis] and a sign that even unemployed white guys still rule the Western World and sit at the head of the kitchen table.

Let's face it, the more white guys feel besieged by a multi-cultural society in which women and minorities have chewed away at their perch until it is about to crash to the ground and leave them equals among other humans, the more fierce and maniacal the opposition to regulating guns as dangerous instruments of death becomes.

That is to say that a gun, or multiple numbers of them (which is the trend per gun owner over the past few years), provides a sense of potency, a shot of dominance that allows one – in some states -- to walk around "open carry" with a handgun. "You see who I am," the handgun symbolizes, "I am of the white guy lineage that conquered the world from the heathens, that wears a 'white hat,' that has anchored civilization since the launch of European empires. This gun tells you one thing; don't mess with me."

Another view is that anti-gun types are most successful in big cities with heavy concentrations of black folk.
Crime in their community is the worse, but they're not supposed to defend themselves.
I guess even anti-gunners also prefer that only white folk be armed, eh.

If tiny penis syndrome is your explanation for liking guns,
then how do you explain women who like them?

Naw, that's what I hire cops for.
And good for you. But what happens when the cops go belly up? Nope, there's always the concern that to keep white society safe one has to be packin'

Actually, we've had this whole conversation several times before.
Usually it goes thusly.....
Yada yada yada yada gun yada yada yada penis yada yada yada.....
And good for you. But what happens when the cops go belly up? Nope, there's always the concern that to keep white society safe one has to be packin'

Black folk carry too.
Self defense is more than white folk needing protection, & black folk committing mayhem.
There are many combinations of race, gender, perpetration, & victimization out there.

Now, since you opened the door for pix/cartoons, I offer.....

Do you remember the OP or did you even read it?
from the OP:10 Surprising Facts About the NRA That You Never Hear
Read # 3
"3. The NRA has a history of supporting the Civil Rights Movement.
While African Americans were being terrorized by the Ku Klux Klan, where the Klan were sometimes aided by local law enforcement, the NRA setup charters to help train local African American communities to be able protect themselves. The most prominent case being in 1960 in Monroe, N.C. where the local National Association for the Advancement of Colored People head Robert Williams also chartered an NRA Rifle Club that successully defended an assault on one of their leader's homes by the KKK without casualties."

When you don't have a valid argument yell "racism" or hint at it to attempt to divert the discussion, it is a well recognized pathology- there are even cartoons about it.... and MEMES!

Let's think about common bigotry & gun rights.
Automatic presumptions.....
- Only white males favor guns.
- White males are racist.
- All gun owners (male & presumably female) have penis envy.
- Women & black folks don't need guns, & are disinterested in them.

When some of these anti-gun lefties lecture us about racism, misogyny
& privilege, they're actually the ones displaying these traits.

What is your image of the NRA? How did you come to those conclusions?
At one point, the NRA supported universal background checks, requiring permits and training prior to carrying a firearm, and helped to write legislation that placed heavy taxes on firearms commonly used in crime. The NRA supported the 1934 National Firearms Act, the 1938 Gun Control Act, California's Mulford Act of 1967, and the 1968 Gun Control Act. The organization used to support safe and responsible gun ownership with reasonable legal control. They didn't start to form their current stance on the 2nd Amendment until the 1970's.

Like you, I am a lifetime member of the NRA. It was one of the first decisions I made as an adult after spending my youth going to NRA classes on marksmanship, safety, and NRA-sponsored JROTC rifle matches. If I were making that decision today, I would not make the same choice.

I've watched the message of the NRA and the rhetoric used in its publications change drastically over the last several decades. I support the original mission of the NRA (to provide education and marksmanship training to Americans) and the political position of the NRA prior to the 1970's. I don't support the drive to remove or prevent reasonable restrictions on the manufacture, sale, and carrying of firearms.
