Would you live in a commune?

They're insular, and rural, but not isolated. Their farms are right there, you could drive right up to them.

I would love to live in a community like that....just because it is always better to live close to people who share your mindset and beliefs...

Communal living generally does not work for the same reasons communism as a political idiology does not work. You are going to find that people will always ultimately have differing lifestyles, opinions, and priorities, as well as differing skill sets, work ethic, goals, etc. in short, sombody has to be in charge, there has to be structure of some sort, and there has to be the ability to enforce rules, laws, etc. that means there will always be unequal power.

But the point of a commune is to assemble a community with similar lifestyles, opinions and priorities. Generally no one is in charge -- decisions are arrived at... communally.

I staying in a kibbutz for a couple of days in northern Israel, and I enjoyed it, especially if one is a talkative person.

I am broadly on path for a monastic life at present, and that's quite like a commune in many ways.

Once global warming and it's concomitant social upheavals generates a new Dark Age, many will be living in feudal communes.
