what turns you off from Christianity?

Turn offs:
- I would hate to see myself become one of the fools who truly believes they have ANY answers in the realm of spiritual belief.
- Would also hate becoming self-absorbed (like so many before me) due to my beliefs held after I become the fool (see #1 above) and somehow deluding myself that my beliefs make me humble and pious.
- Very little of the teachings of the religion that deal directly with God make any sense at all. Many of the parables and stories involving HUMAN interaction are fabulous - but the ones that deal with God are confusing, unrealistic and lack any real credibility or believability for me.
- The adherents do weird things like speak in tongues, claim that they were being influenced by the devil, put their face on the ground for no good reason, say strange things to one another and to complete strangers, freak out about relatively small happenings and coincidences, claim that people were miraculously healed and feel compelled to bold-faced LIE about such things.
- The book is over-rated, over-sold and contains many ignorant musings that are glossed over or even heralded in sermons as some great wisdom. Like Saul killing 1,000 and David killing 10,000 - uh - does anyone even realize that this means that David was a cold-blooded killer and participated in the horrors of war to astounding effect? Anyone?
- I don't need it. At all. My eyes roll all the way back in my head and even head toward my stomach at the thought of being sincere in "believing" any of it.

I just wanted to say, I noticed that some did separate Jesus from "Christianity ". I would say a good 99% that calls itself Christianity seems to be in direct contradiction to the actual Teachings of Jesus.
Which I would like to make the case for not following "Christianity" but for following Jesus.
His main theme was that man would turn from selfishness and return to the way of God to show love to our fellow man.
If I ever had to guess what a good God would want for this fallen world, that would be it... LOVE!
And Jesus modeled it all the way to the end!
Surely that catches somebody's eye besides me! LOVE!!! Real Love... Dieing on the cross LOVE!
Look at his teachings in Matthew 5,6&7
They are Higher than anything
He even says to love our enemies

Wait... what's this about plucking eyes out and in the next line he says cut off your hand? "29 And if thy right eye causeth thee to stumble, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell."
So do Christians follow the teachings of Jesus literally? I hope not. They need to use their brains a little and see what makes sense. Like does a physical body rise in the air or walk on water? No. But a story filled with those types of things makes it sound like a myth. If believing in a myth makes people love one another and love their enemies then fine. But how many Christians do that? If you do, then you're the best Christian I know, 'cause all the rest of the Christians I know pretty much blow hot air.

I consider myself a follower of the "Way", or the message Jesus was going for before Christianity was invented after his death. However, I also am not an ancient Middle Eastern woman, so some pinches of salt must necessarily be taken.

I tend to agree with you. It might be that the story of his dying has kept the story of his life alive.
I am not turned off from Christianity, but if I was, the reason would be that Christians are learning to be unreasonable instead of learning to be wise imo.

Savior- a person who saves someone or something from danger or harm.
IF a person gets saved he will not know from what he was saved because he was saved.
So.......nobody can say he is or he isn't.
Why not tell me that you know the Earth, with the people on it, would still be here now if Jesus had not lived and taught? You all seem to believe that Jesus had nothing to do with us getting here to 2016. How do you KNOW? It takes faith. Doesn't it?
Savior is the lowliest job there is.
I do think it is lower than toilet washing. How so? Because a toilet goes from dirty to clean but a savior has taken away the dirt so we never knew it. Don't you get it?

I've nothing against Xianity.
It just has no intellectual or spiritual appeal for me.
Well, I do hate rituals, oaths, commandments, uniforms, & crowds.
Status it lacks, but glorious utility it has.

Remember: "..they were sent out to save.."
Saving; they did not do.
And what happened to the good guys,
one, up-side down and gone.
But somehow the 'saving' goes on,

..That duality isn't sufficiently explained. The will of God revealed in Judas, and in the Prodigal Son story, isn't sufficiently used to divert away from attempts to subvert monotheism with dualism- which is what the majority of Christian (and the other quasi-monotheistic) sects are.
If it were explained more effectively, those dispositions now comfortable demonizing and dismissing themselves and others, would make progress in Christ's initial and overarching doctrine, that the kingdom of God is near, at hand, and in the midst of two or three i.e. democratic society.
