Then your friend is an idiot. And yes, feel free to tell your Marine friend this comes from a female Squid brown shoe. ;)
He is not an idiot.....more of a rigid narrow minded obnoxious jerk.
(It's why he & I get along so well.)

I have heard some women say about there partner that they want to share there emotions with them. Now, personally, I do but not with everyone. So take this as constructive criticism, but people seem to go through there life like they are asleep, especially men.
Now, I don't know if this perception comes because I have Bipolar Disorder, but I really see men ( and women too !) deal with perceived problems either nonchalantly, or I get the feeling they really couldn't give !@#$%^&*()_ . I am surprised by there ability to deal with problems that way.
But touching on men's inability to share there emotions with a female or male partner, do you feel like women are given permission to express there emotion ? Do you believe, as I do, that society wants you to "be a man" and suck it up ? Do you also believe because men do not have either the vocabulary or the "permission" to get emotional ( angry/ sad / whatever), that men do the majority of violent crimes ?
Let me hear your opinion.

My opinion is that my ideal man is a man with a male body and a female brain.
Just because I think that women are more sensitive and sweet...and a sensitive sweet man is difficult to find

then you would advocate trans-gay therapy where they inject men in the brain with estrogen (against their will usually) and turn the brain feminine to turn gays bisexual.

Yes I believe that the reason that men can be such jerks, is because they have never been allowed to show their emotions, so when they are drinking or whatever what ever they do to try to make themselves feel better, the emotions come up, but because they are not allowed to show them they become violent towards them, and usually take it out on others.

Whilst I get what you mean, I'm pretty old school, don't tend to show emotions, and am probably somewhat repressed if I was going to take a guess. Just the nature of a very old school upbringing.
I'm not violent, nor even particularly argumentative. So even if they are repressed, violent arseholes need to take ownership of their own actions.

(I know you didn't mean they shouldn't, I just wanted to put my own thoughts on that forward)

Yes of course they should take responsibility, but there is a lot of repression going on here, caused by stupid cultural conditioning, and after all they are only human, and humans have emotions that will surface if supressed.

You're right, of course. But violence is violence. My take (slightly simplistic as it is) is that all cycles can only be stopped by those with the fortitude and the self reflection to move past the damage caused and ensure it's not passed on to the next generation.
Which is why I subject my poor girls to about 347 hugs per day...lol

I am now at the point where I say to them 'Hey...so...I have a secret...'
And they respond with a roll of the eyes and 'We know dad...you love us. You tell us that EVERY TIME! Can you get a new secret?'
But then they laugh and cuddle me, so it's all good.

Sounds like you have it all together, but sadly many aren't like that, we need to change the stupidity of old out dated cultural conditioning which I believe is happening already, where men can have a good old cry when they need to cry, and not be humiliated by those who are strongly conditioned, and have no testis to show their emotions.

Agreed. I'm bad at showing emotion (or even feeling it, sometimes) but I don't look down on any who do. And for whatever reason, my kids are the 2 people in the world I have no trouble at all being totally loose around.

I wish there were more like you, how we treat our children is a reflection of how our world will be.
