Goodbye, dear friend....

Earlier today, I held my dear friend as she peacefully and comfortably died. Saying goodbye was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do as we had been together since she was a puppy. A year ago she was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor so I did my best to keep her happy and pain free and make the most of her last year of life. If dogs have a bucket list, hers was filled with family, kids, dogs and food. We made the most of every day.

But this morning, it was obvious that she had had enough, so we called the vet to let him know it was time. It was the right thing to do, but right now I am missing her so much.

Posting here because the concept of rebirth gives me some comfort that her life will continue at some time in some form. I hope I get a sign.

Sorry for rambling, thanks for listening.

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. I've been through saying goodbye too many times. Our lives with our dogs are filled with the give and take of love and their passing leaves a hole in our hearts along with wonderful memories.

Thoughts are with you. I remember losing our first little fella all too well, but it sounds like you brought happiness into each others lives while you could.

May you find a way to carry forward, it is a hard loss but also this doggy's spirit lives on the the many puppies, we need to thank your pet for that. Dogs are very special, in my opinion we humans and the dog formed a bond 40,000 years ago, we are together forever now, one thing is for sure is when we travel into the universe(s) and planets beyond, the dog will come with us. The dog is destined to travel the universe. And I believe one day they will speak just like a human, their own language but a vocal language none the less. It is going to be a great journey, with dog as our copilot.

Wonderful thoughts and words. Thanks so much

I'm so sorry that your best friend passed on. I know how much it hurts. I lost my turtle that I had for 15 years last year and I will always be angry at myself and hate myself somewhat because of it, because it was partially my fault. I still think about him and miss him very much. I've lost so many animal friends over the years and especially last year.

But I do know that I'll see them again and I know you'll meet your friend again, in joy. You also gave her tons of love and the best last year that anyone could ask for, one full of love and happiness. Take heart in that. *hugs*

Hi Wintersolstice, my deepest sympathies for you in the passing of your friend. When my Shi Tzu, Molly, died of cancer some years back I was with her in those final minutes and when she took her last breath. The last thing she heard was me saying "I love you Molly". :cryingcat:
