Slavic Paganism A.K.A Rodnovery

Frolicking_Fox

Artemis, Athena, and Buddha. Anarcho-Communist.
Currently, I am a mutt. I follow Buddha's teachings, and believe in the Hellenic gods. Well, I have a Russian girlfriend who is a Slavic Pagan, or Rodnoverist, or whatever they are called. I was wondering if any other Slavic Pagans are on here in hopes of teaching me about Rodnovery. To be honest, all Pagan religions seem to have the same gods, with different attributes and names to fit the specific culture. Well, as everyone knows, my patron god is Ares, and my patron goddess is Artemis. I understand that Devana is the Slavic equivalent of Artemis. What else can you teach me?

Slavic paganism intrigues me - it's not very widely discussed in the West. Veles sounds cool.

Just realized something: there is a deity in the Slavic pantheon, Perun. He is associated with thunder, wields an axe with a hammer-like shape and rides a goat-driven chariot. His enemy is a serpent god associated with water and the underworld. Þor vs Jörmungandr, anybody?

in Vedas, the axe-wielder thunder God is Parjanya. Parjanya has three hymns dedicated to him in RigVeda. We have a Perun ćerka (Parjanya/Indra duhitā/dotter) in Devayāni. She is the spouse of Shiva's son, Kārtikeya. Jörmungandr has many names, but the principal one is Vritra (the one who covers with darkness) as well as Vāla (who is not a God but a demon of darkness living in the waters of netherworld. This cognates with Veles of the Slavic mythology). They imprison sun for two months in a dungeon. :)

I mostly just know that there is a god analogous to Þor (Perun) and a rival god who watches over the underworld and large bodies of water (Veles). This god takes the form of a horned serpent and (iirc) protects livestock. There is also the Baba Yaga, a ferocious witch from Russian folklore, and Chernobog, the evil god of darkness who's probably a later Christian invention. I would love to learn more about Slavic paganism; it seems fascinating. I also want to expand my knowledge of Celtic and Finnish mythology.

Slavs think their gods are their ancestors. Hence a good time night life n slavic countries ;)
Slavs not accept suggestions or believes, only knowledge. If you don't know old language - slovene - you will not understand difference between creator, god and lord. this why you say - "Slavs think their gods are their ancestors". I was born Russian pagan( have no idea why people call it paganism) and I know real mean of words "religion" and "вера"(believe), real history of humanity and right way to live.

The attitude is everything :) I am Serbian and speak six slavic languages but cant connect your „arguments" with the quotation. Facts are (by all researchers and old historians) that slavic beliefs are based on their descending from old gods.

I just want to explain, that slavic paganism is not a religion( no thinks or believes) . Gods is not something unexplainable, "gods" are people who reach high level of spiritual evolution and exist in higher dimensions. They are our ancestors. I speak 3 slavic lang., but this number will not let you understand creation. Try bukvica(буквица)-azbuka of ancestors lang. - slovene. learn it and you will see difference.
