introducing myself...

hi. i am a late-middle-aged woman who discovered zoroastrianism many years ago. it was a religion that was beautiful to me, but too complex and at the time seemed it would not be a good idea to consider converting. But now here I am learning about it again and considering that i will convert. it was good to see some others are here who are converts, who were mentioned in another thread. and i saw some knowledgeable answers here also so i am glad about that. but mostly just happy to meet zoroastrians and others interested in the good religion.

that being said, i love all traditions. i plan to keep my sufi connections and practices. and i will most likely continue to love devotion to devi. i guess in this sense i'm syncretic. but i feel there is quite a bit of room for that in zoroastrianism.

hoping you will all take the time to introduce yourselves and your journey to zorastrianism. whether you were born into the religion and initiated into it as a child. or converted and what that was like.

I discovered Zoroastrianism around the same time I entered Islam, and it is fascinating, but I would recommend against syncretism. Converting to Zoroastrianism would mean turning away from Sufism to a larger degree than you already have. You should seriously consider which tradition is truer, easier to follow, and more alive before adopting a third(?) set of religious practices, because even though Islam and other revealed religions are different paths to the same goal, it is much harder getting to that goal safely if you try to follow several paths at once.

For a while last year I recited the Gathas of Zarathushtra after my salah 5 times a day, and I don't think it was at all beneficial. In fact, I may have been saying something contrary to Islam and attributing a son to Allah, if the common translation of the word 'pata' is correct...

The Parsis of India don't even allow converts, so if you became a Zoroastrian you would not have a large and accepting community. Rather, the most knowledgeable Zoroastrians would probably all reject you...

I believe there is a lot of truth in Zoroastrianism and the Avestas, but I have fortunately given up trying to believe in them entirely...

Not a Zoroastrian, but welcome to the forum. Keep us appraised of your journey; I'd be interested to know if you convert as I also find Zoroastrianism fascinating and would hate to see it die out. Every convert gained reverses is a victory against that possibility
