What is this?

A friend from the UAE who had returned from an island in Iran, gave me this present today. It is a large cardboard box with the design shown, and inside are white "burfies" like candy with what looks like pistachio nuts in the white soft burfy.

Do you know what these "candies" are?

Thanks!

OMG! Barfi (or Burfi however one wishes to spell them) usually pronounced Bar-a-fee (you have to roll the "R" a bit.) I LOVE them. Second favorite sweet next to Peda found in the Fijian sweet shops.

A Barfi is a traditional Indian sweet typically made with condensed milk and sugar although has a recipe which is....er shall we say flexible? So you will find all sorts of different types of Barfi depending on the region or who cooks them. The ones I know of the most are squares of crumbly sweets which almost taste like you are eating condensed milk lol! They are often topped with nuts or sprinkles. Or even a type of edible leaf called a "vark."
Barfi can also be rather soft and smooshy. (Prefer the more crumbly ones, myself.) Some are even "enhanced" with certain fruits usually mango or coconut.
They are usually seen (and therefore eaten) the most during Diwali and other Hindu Festivals. Then again, so is pretty much every other Indian sweet lol!

Ya mean these tasty treats?

Not sure how they make them, but it's basically just milk and sugar. All I can say is that they're tasty! I always thought it was an Indian sweet, I guess it's a lot more widespread than I thought.

It is an Indian sweet but you will find that Indian and Arabic things tend to "mix together" as it were given their proximity to each other ;).

There's like 1000 different recipes, so I can't help you with that respect. :(
