I would add i think we are a good representation of the human experience.

Of what the general population?
OK, although 'general population' is not lacking in ambiguity.
representative which way?
In any way you choose.
I see no reason to assign good or bad either way.
That would likely depend on how one would define the 'ways' in question. So, for example, if I were to conclude that RF members are comparatively more likely to support same-sex marriage I would consider that good news. Similarly, if I were to conclude that RF members are comparatively more likely to support creationism I would consider that bad news.

Representative in the sense of covering the spectrum or reflecting, incomparative weight of its elements, or both?
I'm probably to ignorant to be able claim the former with accuracy but I'm reasonably comfortable agreeing to the ladder.

Good point.

Research on discussion forums generally suggests a personality preference that bends toward the unusual; I suspect RF posters spend a lot more time thinking about things than your average bear. It is neither good nor bad news, unless you are an RF poster, and it is therefore good news because it means you have someone to talk to.

Representative of people who have internet access, can communicate adequately with English, have completed a certain level of education, and the various socio-economic advantages and disadvantages inherent in these and other factors.

As diverse as we are right now, I'd prefer the RF membership to represent the kind of diversity possible in real life.

Good news though? I see majority opinions in favor of human and civil rights than not.

mmm. I'd say the "average RF member" would be an individual of slightly-to-moderately above-average intelligence, even the ones I tend to disagree with(@1robin & @ShivaFan come primarily to mind). However, we definitely are not representative regarding world religious beliefs. There are(sadly) far too many practicing authentic Pagans in the community, many-many atheists(both weak & strong) and so on to be accurate for the wider world.

I like talking to "common folk" about religion, but honestly, I come to RF to discuss things in a way that your average joe on the street would not find interesting.

Politically, RF is solidly in the centre left with some notable exceptions; Revoltingest, Shivafan, Ultimatium and Saint Frankenstein come to mind. By centre-left I mean very broadly from centrist progressives, social liberal to left-wing socialists. This cuts accross religious/non-religious lines.

I would guess that we have more passive-aggressive nitwits here in RF than you'd be likely find in a typical cross section of modern society.

At the same time I suspect we have fewer bonafide scholars, since they tend to be the ones that the passive-aggressive nitwits single out for abuse.

How representative are we?

Is that the good news or the bad news?
We are not representative of humanity or any country's population.
Such a forum as RF, even though it offers a wide range of debating forums, does not attract membership from the broad range of humanity.

Wrong........ :D
Because debating forums tend to be physically aggression safe, we don't get passive-aggressives as much as we get assertive-aggressives....... because they can confidently state their points without feeling the need for protective passive challenges.

Interesting, though......

So basically what you're saying is, "I have no idea what you're talking about, but I decided to have an opinion about it anyway". . .
