American police look like thugs!

This is what a proper male in a civilized society should look like!

What self respecting woman would love a man that looks like a bald headed thug?

Those are cops?
They swore to "serve and protect"?
I saw the begining of this change from police officers that swore to serve and protect into a group
of quasi military enforcers back in the early 1990s.
Young cops began showing up for work wearing jump boots and sap gloves.
Sap gloves are leather gloves with lead sewn into the knuckles and joints of the gloves to give extra force to a slap
or punch.
I banned wearing those gloves on my shift.
Next came young cops buying a second gun to carry concealed in addition to the uniform handgun then came the
shaved heads.
I got disabled in '94 and now am damned glad of it.
I saw off duty officers wearing T shirts with the logo' " hollow points; when you care enough to send the very best".
Really?
I saw jackets being worn with a logo that said; #$%#% Police Dept. Attitudes adjusted while you wait".
This sort of foolishness should have been stamped out over 20 years ago.

A thug? A criminal? Thuggee?
There is actually a deep etymology behind the word "thug."

What is characterized as a "thug"?

Sagging pants, poor, criminal, pulling triggers.

Only blacks are called "thugs" because "thugs" are negative black stereotypes.

This is the first time I've ever heard that "thug" had any racial reference.
Ref:
thug - Wiktionary
I use the term to describe any brute who intends harm....especially when sent by government.

If you say so.
The word is actually centuries old, it comes from India, and it just means a violent criminal.

And is that how our society uses it?

Was that Black football player acting like a violent criminal when thebmedia labled him a "thug" for talking smack against a fellow play rival?

Maybe that's how you use it, but I don't think it's accurate to say only blacks are called thugs.

I have no mental picture of a thug based on race. If any mental picture comes to mind for me, it's more likely to be to be a mafia-type, hired criminal.

I'm going by with how the media and mainstream society uses it

I know what you're saying. It's a relatively newer context with the word. It's been used for a long long time as a descriptor for violent-mafia-hitmen-bully types, but recently when discussing anything even remotely referencing inner city minorities, "thug" is a polite way of calling these minorities something else. Hairstyles, hoodies, sagging pants, etc. typically find the term being thrown their way. No violent behavior is even necessary for the term to describe how they occur to mainstream folk.

Hence the confusion for some on why the word has come under fire as of late.

If you can read this, you are as lucky as I am.

They also enslave kids to mine for the shankara stones and rip out beating hearts.

Indy and Short Round stuck it to 'em.

I prefer the bald cop he looks great, cops have to look like they have authority and yes mean, they cannot go around looking like fairies, if the police don't keep the authority image they will lose respect and be walked over by every hooligan.

The problem isn't just the word "thug", it is the sentence "they look like thugs". As suncowiam already pointed out they don't look like thugs, they look like soldiers.

They are acting like thugs.

We crazy civil libertarians have been using "thug" to refer to government types for a long time, especially in the ever popular "jack booted thugs". To make it solely a racial thing is bogus.

I have proof!

They sport their mean & nasty mugs.
It really really really bugs
me when they jump,
& shoot or thump
us citizens...those gubmint thugs!
