It would appear that old "Wu Wei" suffers from the delusion of "no self" and if that is the case then his words on the matter are of little importance. Trust me, Scarlett, I fully understand the concept of "no self" and have simply rejected it outright. Been there, done that, burned the T-shirt. I have stated prior to this that the "larger identity" is beyond the imaginations of most and it is so comparatively alien to our normal egotistical view of self that it might be describable as "no self". It is fairly easy to understand where folks get the idea of "no self" as this "expanded sense of being" isn't anything like what we are used to and there really is no way to prepare oneself for their appointment with the self-realization of Oneness, or the reality of multidimensional (and simultaneous) being.
To me, the idea of no "free will" reduces the individual to the point of being a pawn in a game beyond comprehension. I cannot speak for others, but I assure you, I am no pawn.

Friend Somkid,
Yes the individual is responsible for his actions which he is free to do BUT since NOTHING is FREE, the action of such free will has a reaction which carries ON. [Karma factor] The goal however is to make the WILL itself FREE. Meaning to say that the Will comes from the MIND which makes the choices BUT when the MIND {will] itself becomes FREE the person is then not the doer. Nature/existence becomes the doer through the individual which then has no reaction and the individual becomes FREE of all ACTIONS. Once again; one has to be concious of the MIND function and that Free will that we all talk about. Yes, one has to be free from that too; then only is salvation achieved. Till the individual / ego remains the doer remains. Once the individual merges with the universal he becomes a part only and then the individual is no more the doer. Love & rgds |

No God, just karma and the 12 link chain of dependent origination.

I believe that everyone is responsible for their own actions, as their true nature is within them. It is their concious and sub-concious mind that makes the decision to carry out a task, and to blame a deity is like blaming someone else for something that you've done.

We choose our actions from a set of limited possibilities, in response to limited and often misunderstood stimuli.

The question is about responsibility, though; it doesn't necessarily indicate what a person's belief in free will might be. If "I am" mind separate from the universe, I can affect it, act within it, act upon it to the extent of "abilities" that belong to me, in conformity with a set of characteristics that are uniquely "me". Responsibility can then be assigned to me, and I can pay the price for things. I have free will. If, on the other hand, "I am" mind separate from the universe but at its mercy, blown around by forces I cannot comprehend, manipulated at every turn by circumstance... or, conversely, if "I am" mind separate from the universe, a living part of an inanimate machine clicking along at a steady pace, then I can absolve "myself" of responsibility, hand it over to the machine, anything and the everything, to take blame for actions involving me. In fact, I haven not surrendered free will one bit, since "absolving myself" is an exercise of the very type of ability known above as free will. Free will is inherent in separation from the universe. So is the concept of individual responsibility. If, however, "I am" not separate from but integral to the universe, if the "I" is dismissed and there is only "am", the universe, a living machine, then the "everything" that partook of responsibility for actions is at one and the same |
