Welcome man, what's PCUSA, Presbyterian Church of the US, like a governing body for it or something?

PCUSA is the Presbyterian denomination of the united states. Basically, there are various 'prebyteries' that govern different areas around the country. Churches within the denomination are supposed to contribute money to these prebyteries (how that money is used, I guess, is decided by the leaders of the denomination). The reason for our church leaving (and it wasn't easy) is because our church (and many, many others) believes that the denomination has sacrificed core beliefs in order to accept a larger realm of beliefs. In other words, money is more important than faith. The larger the base, the more money you get.
Our church has not been giving money to PCUSA for quite a long time, and the denomination has been losing churches like ours in droves. Our church voted 98.5% for the removal from the denomination, so I think it's pretty clear that we are not a fan of the direction they are going in. We have joined the Evangelical Prebyterian Church (or EPC), which holds very firmly to the principles of Wesleyan theology and the original foundations and intentions of the protestant faith. Our pastor risked losing his ordination to help us do this, so we are very grateful. Just goes to show, we Christians have very strong beliefs and believe that they are worth fighting for. |
