Hi Everybody!
I meant to join this group months ago, but forgot about it until a friend (Philocrites) mentioned it to me this morning. I'm Ron, a long-time UU from Summerville, SC in the Charleston area. I've been a UU for at least 30 years now, and while moving around with my job from city to city, have been involved in several UU congregations--including President of two. Currently trying to get an "emerging congregation" started here in the Charleston 'burbs. I'm originally from the small town of Thomasville, Georgia, and was raised there in a typical Southern Baptist family and faith-environment. As a young adult, I found that my views were "more Universalist" and oriented toward a loving god than a "fearmongering" one, so I eventually found my way to a rural Universalist church south of Atlanta (Harmony Universalist Church, which is now closed). The rest is history...and I've been a die-hard UU ever since. I'm married, semi-retired from a federal government job--weather-related---and have lived with my wife Caroline here in Summerville for eight years now. Looks like we're finally settled. One of my main UU activities in recent years has been with online discussion groups. I have three Yahoo groups at present, one Google group, one blog, and a brand-new "all-UU message board." I also show up occasionally on Beliefnet, Myspace and one a few of the UUA-sponsored "lists". Anyway, just thought I'd say hello! (Hope I didn't put you to sleep with all this. ) |

By the way, it's very nice of Chris Walton to mention us.

Namaste and welcome! We're always happy to have another UU here!
I grew up in McColl, Clio and Columbia, South Carolina! What's the weather like nowadays? (I'll understand if you don't want to talk about it, it being a part of your job!) In my 'signature', there are links for our newer members. (Stuff like guides and whatnot.) If you have any questions at all, please ask!
