Dear RF Members,
I just wanted to thank you for these last few days. I have decided that neither of us is ready for the other and so this will be one of my last posts. A good many of you have made me think, and often laugh, and I thank you for that. It has been a pleasure while it lasted, as you are all quite wonderful people and I wish you all best. I have already, laboriously, deleted the vast majority of my posts. I believe only 9 now remain. I decided to leave external links to both "Dogs and Gods", and "The mind of a child", as I feel both are worthwhile pieces. Neither are my best work, but they are charming and relevant in their own ways. Part of my problem has been deciding how to approach and explain my quirky view of reality. Somewhat mistakenly, I started off some time ago now, writing from a purely metaphysical perspective. Curiously, people tell me they like how I put things, they just simply do not "buy into" what I am saying. A bit of a conunderum, and one that boils the whole excercise down to pointlessness rather rapidly. So, what I am going to start to explore is how to work out my metaphyical agenda, as it were, but from a fictional standpoint. Somehow that idea is rather compelling and it certainly will save me lot of time working out metaphysical rationalizations to the Nth degree. If I slide my wacky ideas into a storyline... well, I dont really have to explain a dang thing. All I have to do is keep a story compelling to the reader, so they do not feel cheated for spending their time reading. I think I am up to that challenge. I do think I have made a mistake these last few years thinking that I could convince others from a purely philisophical standpoint. A bit of an over-inflated ego is likely the cause. Likewise I cannot approach from a religious or theological standpoint simply because I am not a theologian. Ditto for a psychological standpoint. So, that leaves me with writing fiction. Please forgive the roughness of this post, as I dont want to spend all night on it, in typical INTP fashion. (Wonder if I have forgotten anything. Hmmm. Better check.) I am curious what your thoughts on my decision are. Each and every one of your viewpoints is quite valid to me and so I will take each in step. You see, I am also spending too much time here and therefore not working on my pet projects. Instead of working on them, I am mulling post responses. Clearly I have to get my priorities straight. I hope you all understand. All this being said, and now openly admitting that I have been on the wrong track, I have one question. Do you think I have a chance at writing fiction, or am I just wasting my time? I will lurk for a week or two and I really would like your thoughts. Sincerely and with love, Paul R. Maxwell (YmirGF) PS: Please do not misunderstand me, I am not looking for people to beg me to stay. The reality is I am stretching myself too thin, and I do have to get back in the saddle. I will continue to post on http://www.free2code.net/plugins/forums/list.php?f=10 in their Religion forum, and we could use some fresh blood if any would like to drop on by.
