I am 48, so, really am past the point of converting anyone, or being converted to any faith, any creed. It's not like I don't occasionally have insights, to have or give, but, well, ok... you can try and convert me, if you have nothing else better to do, let me repeat something after you, I will, or I will not, like... I will not have a drink. But you might end up wishing you hadn't tried, I've been sober now for about a year. I celebrate life by being sober. And that might be a good place to begin, a point of understanding where we stand with one another, or sit... sitting is good, for awhile. We will all end up getting uncomfortable. And that is the point we are here to deal with, not the fun stuff, all the time. Oh, I'm an ICU nurse, so I see the real bad stuff, and I have just had to learn how to detach to a certain degree, but some things I see and feel still bother me, for a week of so. Oh, I don't watch tv or listen to the radio either. So, I'm boring, that's why I'm here. I occasionally have some interest in conversations, like listening to my relatives, listening is the real key in getting along with anyone. I think I've been converted to a family, other than my own, but that was a long time ago, when I was on my own.

Welcome! Did you have a bad drinking habit?

Some might find debate forums boring, however I don't. Hope you stick around. Oh yeah, how would you classify your religious beliefs?

Hello Ormiston,
Classify? I wouldn't, that might make you dislike me. Or I myself... Next question? |

Welcome to the Forums. I mean that in a very unexcited way.

Welcome, John. Good to have another CCRN on the boards.
You mention that you don't watch TV or listen to the radio. Where do you get your knowledge of the world and current affairs? Papers? Newsmagazines? Internet? |

Oh, okay, I'll talk, write just a little. Actually, my knowledge of the world comes from my father-in-law, and when that whole side of the family is together, after a day or so of all that "news" I am good for a month or so, or so... longer, maybe. Then sometimes, which I find very unheatlhful by the way, is the intrusion of television in critically ill patient rooms. I generally am too busy to listen to more than just patient's needs. But I guess honestly, my relatives are my most direct relation to being able to voice how I feel about larger issues, since I don't mostly need to talk about myself much, or the world, I stay pretty quiet. I began to watch the news last night for some reason, and just began to cry. I had to turn it off. It is a projection of hell, but a hell of choicelessness, very disturbing.
I don't drink alcohol , out of choice, not necessity. That sounds kind of snobby. Don't get me started on things I've quit. I am down to the basics. |

Hi John,
I am sorry to be late in welcoming you to the forum; I gave up alcohol on the 8th May this year - I did have a problem. I notice you don't mention where you live (and I don't know why, but I have a feeling you are not in America) - but there is no reason to tell us if you prefer not to. I hope you like it here; we won't try to convert you to anything, have no fear; unless you ask, no one will ever try to push their ideas on you. ![]()
