I am not allowed to have a forum signature?

Hello everybody. I am new to the forums, and wanted to make a signature, but the button is missing in my user cp. I searched for "signature" in the FAQ and I found a link to take me directly to the edit signature page, but then I got a "Sorry, you are not permitted to have a signature."

Please help?

Yes, I read somewhere else someone saying you need 15 or 20 posts, likewise with posting URL.

There's a bit of an issue with signatures. Here's the whole long story:

One of the requirements is that you need 6,000 frubals before you can create a signature. This was brought in to combat a problem we were having with spam and bad links in signatures.

When the frubal system was working properly, this worked well. It meant that a new user couldn't have a signature until a few people had found his/her posts meaningful, which stopped most of the spambots.

However, the frubal system ran into another problem: inflation. People's frubal counts were getting so large that they were threatening to overrun the maximum size built into the forum software. To stop this from happening, everyone's reputation power (i.e. the number of frubals you give a person when you click the frubal button) was set to 1 as an emergency measure.

Unfortunately, this means that for the time being, it would take a very long time for a new user to accumulate enough frubals to actually have a signature.

We're currently working on a plan to address the frubal problem, and when that happens, the signature issue will be addressed as well.

So... there's where things stand. Hopefully you'll be patient as we resolve the issue.

Edit: Okay, it shows. That's a mighty big sig. Wonder why I can access the signature dealie and you can't? We both joined in January.
