I think Wicca came out of the shadows in about the 1950's.

Yeah, Gardner published Witchcraft Today in 1954, so it probably had its birth sometime between 1945 and 1954.

I've been following this lately. I was surprised to learn Wicca is a fairly new creation as it is today. It would be interesting to see how ancient witchcraft would inter-mix with Wicca. Maybe it's me, but it appears that it wouldn't mix very well.

While I agree that Wicca is modern that is still very different from saying that witchcraft is. Too many people argue that since Wicca is a modern religion that means that it doesn't have ancient roots and that is just wrong.

Probably not. But, it depends on what you want to define as witchcraft, and how ancient we're talking about.

The OP clearly seems to be under the impression that Wicca and witchcraft are the same thing. No doubt a result of outdated information, since that idea was Pagan canon back in the 50's and 60's.

witchcraft is acient it has been our natural born right to be a wiccan or a witch(doesnt matter) to me a wiccan is another name for witch

early Gardnerian Wicca was just a ceremonial religion, it had no magical practice, just worship ceremonies for the Gods... Wiccans are not necessarily witches...
