If you don't believe it will work, then it won't.

As Luke Wolf said, the approach is not the best one. It's akin to saying "if this doesn't happen, then may God strike me down" and proclaiming his non-response as proof God doesn't exist. It just doesn't work that way. Magic is not a toy, nor is it something to be "tested".

Magic is also something you need to work for. There is no spell that can show you all of your power at the beginning, simply because while the power is there, it's untrained. Magic, I think, is a lot like the martial arts. It takes practice, self-discipline and patience to really get going. If you, or anyone, can show those three basic virtues, then the only limit for magic (or the martial arts) is the limits of your imagination

Not too be insulting, but you are going about this in a wrong manner. While having an open mind is good, thinking thier are instant happening, very visible spells, and to use them as a test, is generally not good, and considered an insult by some spirits. The process, and visibility of the results are the same from the basic candle to spells, all the way up to creating an eregore.
And a ritual, or spell, is very similiar to a prayer.

I'm very interested in Wicca and witchcraft,but I want to know there is something there before I get involved.
Perhaps I could achieve similar results from asking you. You have then definitely had experience with successful spells?

I can show you a video of myself shoving a coin into a sealed coke can. Or have someone write something on a piece of paper, burn the paper, and without me ever seeing it, I can write whatever was on the paper from the ashes. I can also levitate a couple inches off the ground. And even floating a pen are all things done by illusion, or video editing. Thier simple are no spells for instant fireballs, lighting bolts, physical levitation, or anything else that is portrayed by the media.

Are you saying you can do the coin thing and leviitate?

Wow, ok, I haven't read through this whole thread yet but I feel I absolutely MUST put my two cents in.

1st) The Magicks are an extreme power. They are not something to be dealt with lightly, stupidly and unintelligently.

2nd) No spells will work for a beginner. Guarenteed. If you've never studied, meditated, practiced or learned before, spells will not work.

3rd) As I said before, the Magicks are NOT to be taken lightly, which means dabbling, as you intend to do, SHOULD NOT BE DONE. It's dangerous and foolish. They cannot be used simply to "prove" to yourself that they work or that there is something else out there.

4th) People should NOT be giving you spells. Period.
a) Especially since you're inexperienced. It is incredibly dangerous to dabble in something powerful that you know nothing of.
b) Spells should be personal. Not something you get off someone else. The best spells come from the heart. From the soul. Those are the spells that work.
c) Being inexperienced, you should not yet attempt to write your own spells, as you have no idea what you're dealing with and have yet to gain the knowledge needed to make your spells work.


That being said, if you're serious on your path, there are many here that can help you along the way. Many that would be more than happy to. Myself included. But you must be sure you are following this path for the right reasons and not simply because you wish to prove that something other than the material world exists.

I just really don't want you to jump into it, expecting spells to be working right away and when they don't becoming disappointed and then leaving the path.

It's a big misconception that Magick works like that. It doesn't. And it's incredibly dangerous, so I fear for people who want to dabble. But if you have any questions about anything, seriously, don't hesitate to ask.

Well I have several questions firstly how would I go about starting?

And I have a few questions about magic etc such as have you then definitely experienced magic? ( I think I can guess the answer to this.)
And have you experienced the definite existence of entities such as the spirits someone noted earlier?

To your first question: read. Everything you can on the subject and anything that might interest you. Make sure that you understand a concept before either moving on, or trying to practice it. Nothing spells disaster more than trying something you don't understand.

To the other questions: Yes, I have. But I have only been able to realize it once I knew what to look for. There aren't any special effects or anything like Hollywood movies portray. And everyone's experiences differ as well.

may i ask, what stage of life are you in? are you a student? parent?

i only ask because what you would be looking for as a student might be different than what you would be looking for as a parent, in which case we may be able to help you out a lot better than guessing what your are looking for - plus i love meeting people and gossiping

i'm a university student, so my needs are money and food lol. i have enough money to just get me through term without phoning my parents for a cheque, but i'm seriously bad at balancing my accounts and sticking to the limits i put on my spending - if i see something pretty and shiney, no matter how much i have already spent, and although i know i really can't afford it in the long run, i still buy the pretty shiney thing! one of the things i'm working on spiritually at the moment is my dependance on buying things needlessly (sp?) the best physical affects that you will see, in my oppinion, is when through a time of focus, you change something within yourself for the better. that's not an easy thing to do, it takes a lot of time and commitment, but i think it's worth it in the end.

anyway, enough of me ranting!

I'm a student too,and I'm most interested in the spiritual aspects of Wicca/Paganism.
To me they seem to offer much more in the actual experience of the supernatural and devine etc(correct me if I'm wrong.), as opposed to christianity where you just have blind faith in something and are offered little real proof.
