Default Wiccan mysteries

I have a question for those of you on a traditional path, as in "orthodox" Gardenarian tradition. Is it true that there are certain things, mysteries, than one can only learn from coven membership, and from teachings protected by oath passed down over the years? Or, with the advent of modern technologies like the internet and huge new age publishers, that such "secrets" have all been revealed?

I truly could not answer your question due to the fact that I have never been in a coven but I would bet that there are not that many secrets left with the age of information as it is now. Look at Scientology and what happened with their highly guarded secrets. If you know how to look, you can pretty much get an answer for everything on the internet.

But how true and factual and untwisted that information is--is left for one to decipher. I would think, that yes, perhaps they maybe out there, but whose to say they aren't twisted beyond belief?

I would think that if there are some secrets that have been kept, that they wouldn't be too interesting. Interesting secrets don't last long.

Excelent point Becky. I have found several sites out there that had certain so called "facts" about Wicca that were a little far from the truth. I am sure you have come across some of those "factual" sites about LDS.

Oh my yes. It's amazing how many there are out there, and it's not just people who don't understand the doctrine and theology, it's mainly people who want to try to 'cast a bad light' on it.

BTW Turk, how's the little one?

Do you really think so Becky? Not to distract from the OP but I was always under the impression that it was a lack of knowledge or an unwillingness to understand that caused that sort of thing. Granted, this could make for an interesting thread.

The little one is doing fine. I am starting to get a complex though. Sometimes Draka passes him off to me and he starts crying. I have discovered that I am a great burper though. Anyone out there need burping?

I had heard recently that a lot of information about Wicca was published not by Gardner, but by Cunningham. And, that was was written in his books was not the complete story, and some things were left out because they were only for "the initiated". I don't know how true it is, and even if it is if these things are still hidden from the general public.
I know in the UK therfe are a lot of "traditional" Gardenarian covens that do this.
I just was wondering if these things were still kept under oath all this time.

On another message board I go on there are many pagans who believe that the only true Wiccans are those who have been initiated. Even a member who was once inititated into a coven agreed with that. As for the secrets, the only thing I've heard is that you learn the true names of the Lord and Lady. But who knows, there could be a completely hidden part of that religion kept in the covens.
