Wiccans and witches (gnostic, pagan, worship, faith, God)

There are often confusion between the two. I have been told by a friend of mine, who is a practising witch that is a fundamental difference between those who follow Wicca and those who practise witchcraft.

According to her, witchcraft is just that, a craft, sort of like occupation, and have little to do with gods and goddesses. While Wicca is a religion, a faith in one or more of the pagan deities.

The main confusion is that early Wicca dabbled in witchcraft and sorcery.

Do you find many people confusing one from the other?

Wicca isn't that old. 50 years, am I right people? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I don't find it that confusing.

I am not sure how old it is. But as I understand they worship some of the older deities. Which god or goddess they worship, I am still uncertain with this, but I think this really depends upon the individual Wiccan in question.

From what I understand, many female wiccans believe in The Goddess, and she is a combination of all past goddesses, thus she is Isis, Bastet, Inana, Kybele, Artemis and others, all rolled into one entity - ie The Goddess.

You are correct, witches are witches because they practise witchcraft.

Wicca is a religion that has witchcraft as a basis for all it's ceremonial parts.

The confusion (IMO) comes from witches who want to use the title of wiccan to describe themselves.

But do not mistake, wicca involves witchcraft.

Actually the witch I know, doesn't like being called Wiccan.
