Wiccans and witches (gnostic, pagan, worship, faith, God)

Ok, the main point of it all is: Not all Wiccans are Witches (yes there are those who follow Wicca, but do not practice Magick), and not all Witches are Wiccan.

And "Wicca" as it is seen today was coined as a term circa 1957, though it has roots in many ancient religions.

Which god or goddess they worship, I am still uncertain with this, but I think this really depends upon the individual Wiccan in question.

This depends on the tradition of each Wiccan. Dianic Wiccans worship Diana, Isian Wiccans worship Isis, Kemetic Wiccans worship the entire Egyptian pantheon, and so on and so forth, solitary Wiccans worship whomever they feel closest to, no specific pantheon needed.

And dianics arn't about worshipping diana, it's a religion of "female empowerment".

Everyone has their own definitions about what a witch is. It is understandable that people sometimes get witches and Wiccans confused. The history of the two words are very similar but ultimately mean two different things. Because all Wiccans do not practice witchcraft then it would logically be concluded, not all Wiccans are witches. Wiccans that do not practice witchcraft base their practices on the Sabbats and Esbats and of the worshiping of the Lord and the Lady. They do not rely on magick.

Perhaps, all Wiccans are witches, but there are many witches who aren't Wiccans. So there there is a distinction between the two.

Has anyone been to A JOURNAL OF A POET - THE GODDESS AS MY MUSE. She is Wiccan poet who favored the cat goddess - Bastet. But she has many poems of other goddesses.

We will have to agree to disagree on the first point because I know many Wiccans who practice Wicca, but do not practice Magick, so as Turk said, logically that would make them Wiccans, but not Witches.

And yes, the main tenet of Dianic Wicca is female empowerment, but their main Goddess takes the representation of Diana.

I am an Isian/Kemetic Pagan, My Goddess takes the form of Isis and her cohort that of Osiris.

I don't know if all Wiccans are witches. I'm not sure if I've ever met a pagan tradition where the word 'all' would apply to every single member.

I consider myself a witch, but I'm not a Wiccan. Being a witch is simply an aspect of my self, rather than my path.

Wicca and witchcraft are seperate entities with large overlaps. Wicca has little in the way of strict rules and there is certainly no such one that commands the use of magick. What is the point of using something if you don't need to?
