This is very interesting. I had a roommate who was Wiccan and he invited one of our friends to go to a ceremony and said she could be a priestess. If someone were invited to go to a Wiccan ceremony what might they expect to happen?

Actually, just about the same as if someone were invited to go to church. The Wiccan coven meet, "Hi, hows it goin'?" type of thing. Then the coven's priest or priestess (possible both) would get things started. The coven would cast a circle, then do whatever the spell calls for. Whether it be to give thanks, ask for rain to end a dry spell, a good and bountiful crop or whatever. Then after wards, just talk about whatever. That is assuming the ceremony is to cast a spell of somesorts. It could also be to initiate someone, or "promote" them, which would still be calling on a particular diety, but the diety wouldn't be called on to ask for something. To be initiated or "promoted", theres isn't any blood sacrifices, or blood drinking. Some covens do thier chanting, then have the person drinks wine that has been cleansed and purified, usually using the athame.
As a part of ethics, the coven does not perform skyclad (nude) unless everyone consents to it.
You wouldn't have to worry about witnessing things that will mentally disturb you and make you regret it for the rest of your life.

Thanks for the information Luke Wolf. It sounds very spiritual. Where are the ceremonies usually performed?

"An it harm none do what ye will; if harm it does, do what ye must"
I understand the first part "an means if" but the second part needs to be explained, reads like a KJV

That is an adaption of the original rede. The original does not contain the second part. It also contains a first part which states "These eight words the Rede fulfills:" which further shows that the second part is not originally included since it means it does not add up to 8.

Let me add not all Wiccans cast spells. And spells are not like you would think. It's more spiritual.

It seems as long as you follow the Rede "even thats optional" that you almost create your own religon. Your Book of shadows is a diary of your personal growth in the spirt, earth, air, water, fire concept?

I read the intro to Wiccans and some other posts, but I can't quite wrap my mind around it.

If you want an elitist, fluffy bunny roasting, annoyed with christianitys bigotry, hard ar$ed traditionalist view, ask away.

No longer wiccan because i prefer to work solitary.

There is a decent undertone of sexuality within the religion, but it's not an orgy, it's about accepting that there is masculine and feminity in nature, and that sex is apart of the creation of life, hence it's a good focus for creative energy, this is symbolically used by dipping a knife into a cup.

It is best to work with a partner of the opposite sex because you get more of a balence, your life partner is the best option.

The rede is more of a guideline not a rule, the intent is to do the least amount of harm, so don't expect a wiccan not to rip you a new one if you cross them, "hexing" is frowned upon but not unheard of, one of the few true things from the movie "the craft" is that binding ritual she does with the white ribbon and the photo.

I personally believe wiccans do not police enough of their own, i do know of an individual who surrounds himself with underaged girls and "initates" them with sex, this is where the coven i was in was tempted to use the left hand path as punishment.

But we were working on seperating him from "his girls" and destroying his hold on them instead, but internal bitching took precidence.

I think that's enough for now.

P.S these are kind of trade secrets, so please be respectful and don't misuse them.

A contested area of thought.
