astrology and magick (ritual, Earth, experience, pagan, spiritual)

For quite some time I have been pondering the relationship between astrology and magick. If one believes in astrology then s/he would believe that our zodiac sign effects us somehow in certain ways. I feel that this also would include, or have something to do with, ones magickal abilities, or the ability to tap into the celestial powers. I believe that the elemental standards of each individual has a some effect on their hands-on spirituality.

Take a Taurus for example: The Taurus' element is earth. The Taurus is the sign that is closest to the earth, and possesses traits which exist primarily around the material aspects of life. With this being true, and the Taurus being the most physical, couldn't this have an effect on an individuals celestial/spiritual powers? As opposed to a water sign like Scorpio or Pisces, who are often natural psychics and occultists?

I believe this to be a subject worth exploring and debating.

I believe it can. I'm not a water sign, being a Libra, but I do possess more empathy than water signs I know. Tauruses tend to be grounded, at least those I've met, and I imagine that this can effect how they approach life and their powers as well.

Sorry Feathers ... Libras and I have a histroy .... hehe . I am a double water sign , as I stated on this topic in the Pagan forum { I should post my relpy there here , and keep this to one thread ... } , however , I feel that I'm as connected to the Earth as I am Water . Which is the problem I tend to run into with Libras ... Libras are balanced , but when they get out of balance ... look out .

So that explains it . I'm a Scorpio , with Pisces rising ....

A lot of people believe that Darkened , but I refuse to believe that something so far from me has much influence on who I am . After all , wouldn't the Earth and our own sun have more influence on each of us then some star lightyears away ?

Hehehee, you're right about when they get out of balance. I prefer to look at it as taking a stand on something when you're usually a waffler. It's odd, because my totem animal is normally associated with the air element, as are Libras, but I feel much more of a connection with water. Of course, I'm hardly ever grounded, and find earth and fire two of the most difficult elements to relate to, too.

There is nothing that says those who believe in astrology have to believe in magic. It's true that the two often come as a package. It's MORE true, however, that the two are often lumped together by the ignorant. (those crazy Catholics, for example ) But like magick and Wicca, just because the two are often together doesn't mean they have to be. I know people who practice magick but think astrology is ******** - more often the other way around. The great thing about magick is that there are no set rules for what you have to believe in.

Could the two have an effect on each other? certainly. But everything has an effect on something else. My experiences as a child, my past lives, my family - everything has an effect.

And then there are the exceptions, of course. I don't follow astrology much, but I do know that I'm a Pisces and I'm a child of earth! There are several other people I know who don't fit their sign exactly. Exceptions like these can cause problems if you assume that your sign is effecting your magick. For example, I'm not a psychic. Or rather, if I am, it hasn't come to fruition. I'm very close to the earth. So if I were to assume that I should work with water trying to do psychic exercises, I would be frustrated at the very least! at the worst, I would screw something up badly. (as I side note, I'm also very material. I do like my ritualistic objects )

So I guess what I'm saying is yes, but not always.

This post was obviously meant for people believing in both astrology and magick. I'm not asking the people whether they believe in either or not, but simply making an effort to help explain a possibility of a connection between the to the two, and hopefuly end up with some productive conclusions.

Astrology is not limited to your sun sign and moon sign. You have to aslo take into consideration that each planet influences everyone in some way, depending on what constellation or sign each planet themselves resided in given your time of birth. For example, Venus may have been 12 degrees into Scorpio when you were born. That would have some effect on you in some way.

If you don't believe in Astrology, or at least have knowledge of Astrology, you can't possibly comprehend or help in productive way so it would be best of you just ingnored this post entirely.

At RF we let everyone talk no matter what they know. Maybe what they say doesn't help you, but it may help someone else. Anyone who doesn't comprehend may, by discussing in this thread, comprehend. And who's to say that they don't comprehend better than you?

There is a lot to astrology. But since obviously no one knows as much about it as you, I suppose we'll all just have to ignore your posts entirely.

I have no objections to people stating their opinions 'no matter what they know', but isn't it custom to reply to the actual topic of discusion? How much help could a person having no belief or knowledge of Astrology possibly offer in this discussion? My last comment on my previous post was really just an attempt to avoid people like you, who just make up excuses in order to disagree with someone by twisting opinionated statements into offensive gestures, and the classic bull**** post which are fudamentally created for the perpus of increasing the number of posts. There is no need for that kind of time consuming waist, because all the matters is the information which could eventually lead to a greater understanding of the self. It's obvious that you didn't understand the point I was trying to make and there is no need for a battle of egotistical views here.

I'm not saying that I comprehend better than anyone else nor saying that I know more than anyone else does. I'm actually kind of confused of why you made those comments in the first place. All I am doing is providing a gateway that could possibly lead to a better and greater understanding of the self. Forgive me if I may have seemed like I was 'commanding' specific orders to people. I suppose that was just a reflection of my Satanic Personality.

As for you ignoring my posts, I'm sorry that as a student of religion, one like yourself, would attempt to act as a barrier against possible discovery.

Ok , this part of the forum isn't for debates . I'm sorry if that was what I appeared to do Darkened . Truth is , I'm interested in the connection between the two also , although I tend to think that the connection is ... well , subjective to what the individual believes .

So I will just ask one question here . If you wish for " a better and greater understanding of the self " , then why look to the stars and not yourself ?
