I had a professeur of mine say something along those lines.

It didn't settle right with me.

Was he correct?

No, it is pretty much a total misinformed delusion. Some satanists claimto be Wiccan, but they might as well claim Buddhist, because Wicca is just as peaceful and loving.

They are not satanic. There are a lot of misconceptions about this. Many of their beliefs do have pagan roots though, but so do some Christian beliefs... symbols such as the Pentagram are not a signs of Satan.

Quote:
Each point of the Pentagram traditionally represents one of the five metaphysical elements of the ancients. The topmost point represents Spirit, The upper left point represents Air, the upper right point represents Water, the lower left point represents Earth, and the lower right point represents Fire. In this fashion, the pentagram represents Spirit ruling over the four elements.
Hope this helps a little bit.

The other answers have covered this, but I thought that I'd give you the short answer:

No, definitely not. Wicca is basically a revival of European paganism mixed with ceremonial magic. It is neither diabolical witchcraft, nor true Satanism. There is no mention of Satan, Lucifer, or other satanic figures, nor any allusion to Christian mythology (angels, demons, Christ, etc).

We tend to get asked that a lot...And, to be backed by the others, nope. Just another one of those loverly misconceptions that goes along with religion.

I'd thought, once I began exploring the Wicca religion, that there was no possible confusion between Wicca and Satanism. Then my dad asked me, in a quite easy-going manner, 'So, having fun worshipping Satan?' I think he was trying to be kind, oddly enough.

Ironically if you asked the question to a Satanist they would probably be more insulted/amused at the question than a Wiccan...
