Milarepa film (mystic, tradition, America, pray, bible)

This is very exciting news. One of the most beloved figures in the Tibetan tradition will be portrayed in a feature-length film directed by Neten Chokling Rinpoche, a Tibetan monk who appreciates the cinematic medium as art.



Milarepa is an important figure in the lineage because his story is considered a "rags to riches" story. He attained realization in one lifetime that had included criminal behavior, murder, rage, etc............So, his legend is a huge inspiration to all of us practitioners that strive to attain liberation in our lifetime.




The way he mainly taught the dharma was through song. His music was considered to be some of the most beautiful music many have ever heard.



The imagery, the soundtrack, and the cinematography............This looks good! Check out the website for more information on this movie that will be released to select theatres in September (alas, none in St. Louis or close by me), and will be available on DVD in October.

I'm listening to some of the music right now from the site (I hope it's used in the film), and I am so pleased. Hopefully, more practitioners who view this movie will come to an even greater appreciation for Milarepa's legend, and more non-practitioners who have never even heard of any person in the Tibetan lineage outside the Dalai Lama can be introduced to one of our most revered figures.

I researched a little more into the film's production history, and I thought that it was more than a little coincidental that there were 108 members of the cast and crew.

P.S. FYI.........there are 108 prayer beads that make up our rosary, or mala.

That looks very good. Unfortunately the only showings are in North America, so I'll probably have to wait a while before I can get it over here. Any other film and I'd download it - but I guess illegal file sharing would go against the principles of what the film is trying to teach! Kind of like stealing a Bible
