I talked with a fella from India about hinduism. He said in his country religon is tool to control the people and very bad. He believes in something but not in using religion as a political tool. I am readinga book called Princess which I can get the isbn number on later and edit in this post. It talks about women in saudi arabia and Islamic law. It is the most difficult book I have ever read. I don't know if I can finish it because it made me so depressed. I am 1/2 through it now. My friend who is a baptist is considering marrying his gf who is a buddhist. I spent one afternoon telling him about the four noble truths mentioning there is an 8 fold-path in that religion and talking about dharma and karma. His first reaction was uneasyness at an atheist talking to him about religion but than he decided an atheist can be educated in what he does not believe in . I told him he should take her to the buddhist temple in north austin but to remove his p-diddy looking earing before going. He and I are real good friends.

Hello everyone,
Looks like a cool thread. Are we discussing personal goals? My current one is to get a comic book published and I am very close. Hopefully it will be on the shelf by next summer. Does that sound like a strange goal for a guy in his 40s? |

Trey, that sounds very cool! I envy those who can draw well. My stick figures aren't even straight (pun intended). Do you have anything online you can show us? Make sure to let us know when you are published so we can support you!

Maize: What sort of work do you want to do? Or do you know yet? I gather from your statement that geography is the most important factor for you, correct? Are you trying to stay close to family? So many questions, I know...
Robtex: Sounds like a great discussion. You seem to have a wide variety of friends. Trey: This thread is just for general fellowship, like coffee hour after service. Welcome to our corner of RF. As for me, I'm still waiting to hear back from that job. I spoke with the plant manager last Friday, and things look like they will work out, but I don't know quite when just yet. Soon enough though. I'm in a local band, and we've got our second gig coming up soon. Only two more practices before we play, and a lot to cover in those. The first one went well though, so I expect this one will too. Now if we could only finalize our name...

I am so excited about the fall! There are so many things going at my church and many of them are fun, new things. I think I've mentioned on here before that I am the Fellowship coordinator at my church. I took the position with the understanding that I wasn't just going to be counting kitchen supplies and cleaning up coffee every week. I'm working with all the different committees to get them "out" (more visible might be a better phrase) in the church. I'm trying to create more fellowship and fun time and using the committees to do it.

As for geography, last year I moved away from all my family in Kentucky to come to Virginia. But I'd rather not move again anytime soon, unless I really have to. I do like this area (even though I know you've heard me call VA a backward, bleep, bleep, bleep of a state), I love my church and having already had to leave one church (when I moved here) I'm so not ready to do that again anytime soon. That was the hardest part of moving for me. Plus my kids are in school and need some stability with that. Quote:
Great news about the new job!
