It's just hard to know that a place I came to again and again for the fair debate and tolerance isn't seeming all that.. tolerant anymore.

I'm torn between feeling like I should defend better and feeling like trying and checking the forums again is just waste and I should stay away a bit because there just come more ignorant and hateful posts- no matter how many times I've said that said misconception (virgins, anyone?) is false...

I'm also pretty much living on coffee now, I should get more sleep. >.>

Sign of the times... There's going to be conflict or Anarchy soon. Not the end of the world, but it's going to be shaken up for sure. Things can't go on the way they are, there's too much consumption.

Just speaking from experience, lack of sleep always makes problems seem bigger and insurmountable to me. But of course, this is a real problem and even with a refreshed attitude and perspective you'll still have to deal with it. Take a break if you need to. Just try to remember (I know it's hard to!) that there are also always some who will fight against intolerance and stand for what's right. And that there are people are here for you.

Do what I do here at religious forums.... pick one or just a few sections of the forum that meet your standards, and just stick there...

That is why I rarely stray out of the UU Section. I run a forum of my own for discussion of Deism, and we have a behavorial covenant that addresses such bashing.

Just to be clear, no "bashing" is allowed anywhere on RF. When it is reported or found, it is dealt with and the person counseled for their behavior.

However, defining "bashing" is sometimes a little more difficult and often a tough decision to make. We value tolerance and learning, but we also value freedom of speech and expression. So, beliefs and faiths are up for debate, but directing attacks against an individual is not; that's where the line is drawn.

Yeah, it just gets a little. Iffy sometimes. I think it's more of "why can't people just be a bit... nicer, sometimes." I'm not trying to blame the rules or the mods or the board itself or anyone like that.

Yes, it is difficult. That is why I regretted using the word. While I have found some of the things said personally repulsive, I also realize that a lot of it comes from personal conviction. I'll argue with it, as is my right (and responsibility), but I agree whole-heartedly with RF's policy of letting people speak what they believe as long as it doesn't get personalized towards an individual.
