I guess I would consider myself somewhat of a Pantheist, but that is not one of the choices on the poll.

Would you consider adding that as an option as there seem to be several people that state that they are Pantheist?

I'd love to, but I don't know how to edit polls... Maize, could you do it?

I selected Monotheist because I believe in one God. I take to heart the statment in 1 John 4:8 : He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
I also believe that divine love was embodied in the person of Jesus of Nazareth. I do not believe Jesus and God are the same in any sense other than him being a reflection of the one God's character. In the same way, all of us can grow to be reflections of that divine love by becoming like Jesus.

Interesting thoughts! I like this idea. Could you expand a bit on the statement "I also believe that divine love was embodied in the person of Jesus of Nazareth"? Do you believe that God sent us a human - Jesus - who had God-like qualities, to show us what God's love is like; or do you believe that Jesus was simply very in tune with God's love, and a great leader to boot, and so was able to present to us his (fairly accurate) take on what God's love is?

Btw, welcome!

I'm not sure if I would say that Jesus was sent with a mission from God. On that point, I'm somewhat ambivalent.

I would have to say that Jesus (like all great mystics/prophets) was very in tune with God's true nature. His phenomnenal ability to communicate that understanding to his followers is part of what has made his teachings such a force in man's history.

I'd definitely agree with that. I guess I was just trying to figure out the statement "divine love was embodied in Jesus"; do you believe this was because God made it so, or because Jesus made it so?

Haha, I'm not sure if that makes sense. I'm just trying to understand your position - sorry if I'm a tad slow

Actually, that makes total sense. I think it was equal parts God's creation and Jesus' own efforts. I believe that God has made us all with that potential but leaves it up to us to make it so.

BTW. I don't think you're slow at all. I've enjoyed the opportunity to clarify my thinking a little.

Funny, that is exactly what I believe! So in other words, you believe Jesus was the same as any other person in the 'potential' he was given, he just put in enough effort to really become in tune with God and therefore embody divine love?

If so, then we believe the same thing about Jesus as well.
