I hold David, Sandy, Athena (and the computers) in my heart. But I feel like my heart is going to break. It's too much; not again; not so soon.
Thanks for informing us, kiwimac. Please let us know when you hear from David again.

Lilithu - The positive side of this is that while we may get flooded and hammered here in southeast Texas, it will be more like Florida's recent experiences. We don't have the huge bowl shape which caused New Orleans to fill up with water; and after Katrina, no one is taking Rita for granted.

I was just thinking last night while watching the weather reports that David and Engyo are in the path of Rita. You guys stay safe and we'll see you soon. If you need a place to stay, head on up to Virginia.

As Scott says, thanks for posting this kiwimac.
I can't even begin to imagine what this is doing to people's lives. I will pray for all those affected; it just doesn't feel enough. I'm with Lilithu on this one. ![]()

Thanks to all of you for your well wishes...
Sandy and I are safe, along with Athena (our cat). We are currently in a hotel about 25 miles east of Little Rock, Arkansas. We will be driving to Knoxville Tennessee tomorrow, where I will set up an office to begin finding the members and friends of our UU Fellowship, and making sure they are ok. That, and preparing for the insurance paperwork that will need to be filed, most likely. It took us almost 24 hours to get out of Houston. The traffic gridlock the media is talking about is no joke. If anything, they are understating it. If it were not for my filling up at every gas station I saw, no matter how long ago I filled up, and a few good decisions about getting off the normal evacuation routes, we would be stuck by the side of the road with no gas... and weathering out the storm in our car. People are frustrated, and I witnessed some violence and threats of violence. Sandy and I slept last night for three hours in our car in the parking lot of a vacant building by the side of the highway. There was no other choice. In N.O., many did not evacuate. In Houston/Galveston, most people were not prepared for the evacuation itself. Some may pay for it with their lives. We will probably lose most of what we own. I know that... and have accepted it. We saved what was important... each other. yours in faith, David |

Namaste David,
It's so good to hear from you! Wish I could give you a big hug. We had our Autumn Equinox observance at our church this evening, focusing on gratitude. And everyone's minds were on you guys on the Gulf coast. As selfish as it sounds, I am grateful to not have to face what you're facing. I am grateful for home and security and the awareness that I have these things that Katrina and Rita have brought me. I am grateful for people like you who serve those in need and can turn around and face your own challenges without bitterness. I am grateful that you're safe, and hope that Engyo is too. God bless you and Sandy and Athena and everyone else facing these storms. Stay safe and please let us know how the other members of your fellowship are.
