I'm glad you, Sandy and Athena are safe, David. Take care and let us know if you need anything. God be with you and everyone effected by these storms.

Hi all,
Sandy and I are in Knoxville. I am now beginning the task of finding our fellowship members.... I have located about 20 at this point. There are many lessons that will come out of this... and some will be profound for me. I know more about what means the most to me.... and about how attached to things we are. I learned that in a crisis most people only think of themselves, but there are a precious few who think of themselves none at all.... I learned that Sandy and I can rebuild anything but eachother and our relationship. So long as we have that... all else is gravy. For now, I need some food and some sleep. We plan on being in Knoxville for at least 5 days... but for now this computer geek is on a dialup connection... Yours in faith, David |

Hi all -
Our family made it to Austin after a harrowing 13 hour trip which normally takes 3 hours. All safe; and I heard from a neighbor who stayed that the house is fine; 1 limb down but it didn't hit the house or the other car. Power is currently out, but only in part of the neighborhood; it shouldn't be major repairs required. Now we just have to get back; hopefully this isn't as big a deal as gettting out of time was.

Dear David,
Thinking of you and your family with my whole heart. I remember how supportive so many American people were to those of us in Britain after the terrorist attacks of the 7th July 2005, and I hope that those of us here in Britain can offer our friendship when they are in danger. I hope for the best possible outcome in the troubles ahead, and anyone else who may be having to face the hurricane. |

At first view, it appears that both my spiritual and physical homes weathered the storm.
One of our members hunkered down on the Island, and he told me that the Fellowship is ok, and that almost all of the houses on the Island survived. I am betting one of them was mine. It will still be several days before we go back. We will not go back until the power is back on there. We figure if we leave here when the Island is opened back up, then when we get back 20 hours later we might have missed most of the traffic. Perhaps we can even have dinner with Steve Dowell on our way though Memphis, as we will probably go that way to avoid I-10 and Beaumont area. I have found about half of my members, and am feeling good about the rest. Galveston dodged a bullet, but this has to be a wakeup call for us. There is still 2 months in Hurricane season... and right now any storm that enters the gulf will get big and head for us. Sandy and I are doing some thinking on how much longer we will be staying in Galveston... but will probably stay till next summer. I doubt we will go through another Hurricane season there though, as much as I love it. For now, I am at my mothers, have dialup access, and am trying to find ou members. I will keep you all informed... and toorrow I am going to the UU Church here..... yours in faith and reason, David |

Just thought I would let you all know that I was back in Galveston. In fact, as the cable lines were laying in my back yard when I got home, I am posting this from the computer in my Church office, and not from my house... no cable modem yet.
Our house had some light damage... a cracked window, lost some roof shingles, and a leak or two... but nothing bad and all easily repairable. The church survived with no damage at all, just some down branches and the like. In fact, we have gone ahead with a scheduled 4 day Zen Buddhist Retreat, which is beginning as I type this and will conclude on Sunday. I am locked in my office so as not to disturb them. ![]() I am writing a story of all that has occurred, and sometime in the next week or so I will post it in my journal. But we are putting everything back togehter and moving forward... Thank you all for being supportive... Yours in faith, David |
