I have never spoken with Gaughan, but he speaks to me through his paintings...
I have never spoken with Walt Whitman, but he speaks to me through his poetry... I have never spoken with Bishop John Spong, but he has spoken to me through his writing... I have never spoken with Ghandi, but he has spoken to me through his life. I have never spoken with Bach, but he has spoken to me through his music. I have never spoken with Clara Barton, but she has spoken to me with her heart. I have never spoken with Dag Hammarskold, but he has spoken to me with his actions. I have never spoken with God, but he/she/it has spoken to me through the creation. Through thunderstorms, through a sunset, through the movement of ants, through the beauty of the universe, through all of creation, God speaks to me. God's words inspire awe, wonder, emotion, love, and curiosity in me. Sometimes, I think I/We exist simply because we can appreciate what is before us... God's Masterwork. Now, if you ask me if I speak to God... my answer is that I hope to. I hope that I can speak to God with my life. Each time I counsel someone in grief, I am speaking to God. Each time I recycle, I am speaking to God. Each time I take on an activist cause to better the world, I am speaking to God. Each time I celebrate a life-event with someone, I am speaking to God. Each time I try and make a difference in our world, I am speaking to God. My life is my prayer. And I believe it may well be the only kind of prayer that God hears. I believe that God speaks to most of us at one time or another. The problem is, a lot of the time I'm too dense to realize that He's trying to get my attention. He must get awfully frustrated with me when that happens.

Davidium, your "Now, if you ask me if I speak to God... my answer is that I hope to." struck a real chord with me; I pray most days - sometimes I spend quite a lot of time doing it. I hope too that God hears me.
I believe I sometimes get answers, and I am very happy when I do so; they seem to come from inside me - and they are always accompanied by what I can only describe as a 'frisson' down my back, (This may sound absurd) - but it is almost as if I can feel something totally intangible coming in through what I know to be what some people call the crown 'chakra'. Yikes, I'm so embarassed by this I am tempred to delete the post - but maybe I am supposed to be saying this; who knows ? ![]()

A touching, if not "wishful thinking" post.
I'd have to say, in a way, I envy your point of view. ![]() Quote:

............"Hehe, spooky! ![]() If I were you, I'd be calling my doctor fairly soon, Michel!"................... [/PART QUOTE]Ah, That is one thing I don't need a doctor for; I am happy believing what I believe - nobody will change my mind; somehow (however absurd it sounds) I KNOW it's right....... ![]()

I would say No, God does not speak to me. ( God may well speak to other people, I am not intending to demean anyone else's experience) I find prayer difficult also. I prefer to sense God as a force of stillness and quiet which is beyond words. I am not seeking to enter into some conversational dialogue with God .

I have always felt closest to God in nature, sitting in the middle of a forest feeling the sway of the trees in the wind. Or on top of a rock listening to a babbling stream.

I agree, the more I immerse myself in nature, the closer to God I find myself.
