Default Unitarian Universalism and Acceptance

I kind of want to go to some sort of religious service because I can get closer into finding interesting people in real life, and I can't really find anything that I have a common idea with, and that have a common idea with me.

Basically, I'd describe my beliefs as Nihilism, but many people think that is a negative term, when really I am not all that negative.

I don't believe in objective morals (that does NOT mean I'm not respectful, I am, it just makes me tolerate others' moral ideas better, otherwise I'm an average guy)

I don't believe in a meaning to life, rather than pleasure. There are people who get pleasure from pain, so if you willingly live a life of pain, then that is by definition pleasure, so you are not in pain. Thus, I conclude everyone does things for their own pleasures.

I posit that the human species or even the entire globe is insignificant, without purpose and unlikely to change in the totality of existence. BUT we are significant to ourselves, that's what counts.

So in a more positive way, I pretty much think it's just skepticism.

Anywho, would I fit in a UU service? What do you think?

The services I attend do have a spiritual undertone, but it is not dogmatic in any way. The messages focus on humanistic morality and are all inclusive.

For myself, it is more about having a place of fellowship without any expected dogmatic adherence.

I don't see why you wouldn't fit in. From my experience UUs are about as open-minded a bunch as you'll find on the spiritual market. When we agree, great. When we disagree, we leave it at that.

To an extent, I think the same way as you. We tell ourselves we're "special," not realizing that people living a few hundred or thousand years from now won't know we even existed, unless we happen to do something pretty significant like Alexander the Great or Genghis Khan.

I think life is mainly about being happy. Enjoy your friends, your hobbies, learning, traveling, skydiving, whatever floats your boat. Be who you are and to hell with what others think.

Unfortunately, many are born into hopeless situations and have very unhappy existences, and I believe we should help them if we can. That's just me. Will that all matter in a million years if there's still an earth and a human race? Probably not. But it matters in the here and now.

I think I would go and fit in, but the nearest UU church is 100 miles off. Is there anywhere on the net where you can check to see if there are any UUs in my area?

The Church of the Larger Fellowship is an online community for those with no UU church available. It may be worth looking into. Church of the Larger Fellowship

Without even reading your post Sum, I'd say YES!

Check out the 7 principles and see if you like them, that is essentially the only 'agreement' you need to consider, imo, if that really.
