Sunday, August 20 @ 8pm ET/PT on The History Channel
The story of the Exodus invokes an epic tale--Pharaohs and Israelites, plagues and miracles, splitting of the sea and drowning of an army, and Moses. It's at the heart of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. After much research--working with archaeologists, Egyptologists, geologists, and theologians--filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici concluded that the Exodus took place hundreds of years earlier than thought. With a new timetable, Jacobovici reexamined artifacts and discovered that the traditional consensus on the date was reached without reference to Judaic texts that record the oral traditions. When Jacobovici consulted these texts, they revealed names of people and places unknown to researchers until recently when extensive excavations in the Nile Delta took place. Teaming up with special effects designers, he created a unique digital experience of the Exodus. Blending archaeological findings with eye-catching effects, Jacobovici creates a virtual museum to showcase his discoveries. http://www.historychannel.com/global...6&NetwCode=THC Anybody planning on watching this?

At the risk of being totally blasted by Jayhawker Soule again--I will say I watched the show last night and thought they had some interesting arguements in favor of the Hyksos being Hebrews and thier expulsion being the basis for the Exodus stories. I missed a few parts because the dog decided to get sick (clean up etc), but it seemed a fairly logical progression--the adjustments in chronology were not unbelieveable or enormous. Some other points ie the dating of Thera's eruptions on Santorini are already in question (1630-50BCE according to Geologists--1500-30 according to archelologists. I thought it made some interesting points--and personally do not think the Hyksos expulsion should be totally excluded as a possible answer to the story of the Exodus. The story has to have some foundation/origin and since there isn't any trace of other archeological evidence elsewhere --why not the Hyksos?

I'm going to watch it, and take it with a grain of salt, after all it is the history channel, with its constant doom and brimstone programming.

I was interested in the comparisons between what happened in Cameroon recently and the possibility of similar natural events in Biblical times. I'd already seen a connection made between the Exodus and Santorini blowing up. |

![]() I'm completely confused at what you mean by this, Alan. Oh, early on it's history it was all WW2 documentaries, and so my husband and I still jokingly refer to it as "The Hitler Channel." ![]() |
