I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes anyway...
What exactly is Necromancy? I've come across it in video games (Oblivion in particualar) and I'm wondering if it's like what it is in the game. Reanimating dead bodies for your own use? Does anyone actually do that? It's sounds really interesting. I'd love to hear more about it. ![]() |

We've got at least one necromancer on the forums, though they might not be on until tomorrow. I know just enough to know that it isn't like in the games, but they should be able to tell you more. (Is that The Elder Scrolls game?)

I've only played the "Morrowind" installment, but I love that dearly. You've got excellent taste!

Well, first off, the elder scrolls rock! as for the necromancy part, it is totally different than what is commonly displayed on games, we cannot re-animate bodies, it is impossible to force a soul into dead flesh. Necromancy strikes a balance between life and death. and the Necromancer does everything within his power to protect and restore that balance. we use an energy coined the "Death essence" and contrary to popular belief we are not evil, we are not necrophiles, and we do not try to bring about world domination. yes we wear black robes, yes our rituals are morbid and may be seen as horrifying in others peoples eyes. we sacrifice our life force, so we can gain greater knowledge and influence. we have a very cold mindframe, which online does not seem so bad, but in person can send shivers down a persons spine, we get this because we see our own morality every moment of every day. we are very secretive about our workings, i am one of the more public Necromancers out there. and even then i am highly reclusive. as for working with the spirits of the dead, we generally conduct a ritual. to open a channel for them so they can communicate. think of our world as...a swimming pool for the dead, without help they must strain and "hold their breath" so to speak, to even get a feeling across, with us helping them they simply have to convey the message. we do have servant geists (or guardian spirits if you wish it) we can never forcefully bind a soul, it is their choice if they wish to help you. you must realize the spirits are not at your beck and call. if you have any other questions, please ask. i am delighted that you wish to learn.

so... you're like a psychic who communicates with the dead through a ritual? Thats sort of what I'm getting from your explaination. I still don't think I really understand. I now know that it's not like the games, but I'm still not really getting it.

Well....yes and no. while it does take some psychic concentration to communicate with a spirit (or just hear them) im not really what psychic. i use the energies of death itself, but it takes alot of mental/psychic focus to actually influence it. when communicating with a spirit i do my best to divine what is happening/ going to happen, keep in mind that just because someone died they do not gain the ability to see the future, and many of their old memories may be lost to time. but what they see now and what they remember from the past may give me some insight to what may happen.

okay... so you actually communicate with dead spirits? I find that really cool. but are they good spirits or do you sometimes get bad ones? can you see them or just hear them? do you channel only the ones you want? like can you call certain people or is it just whoever shows up? and do they have to be dead for a certain amount of time? do you do your rituals in graveyards or can you do it anywhere?
thanks for being so patient with me! this is just so facinating! I'd rather hear about it from someone who practices it than read it written by someone who doesn't. |

ok, idk if you like long explanations, or down to the point ones...but long ones explain it better
Yes, i communicate with the dead, usually through a ritual that invlolves a picture or personal artifact of that person, placed inside a red and black triangle, i burn horehound and wormwood incense during that, and have black, red, and white candles burning (placed at the appropiate poins on the triangle) followed by an incantaion to Hecate and some latin/hebrew lines. not all spirits are good, and yet, very few are bad...even though they are dead they are still human...and some humans go insane...imagine this, you die a horrible, painful death, and everything you know and love is stripped away immediatly and you are cast into the void without so much as a goodbye, something like that will damage a human mind. as for who shows up, it depends on how you ask, to get a specific person you need to use their full name and have a photo/personal artifact. if you want a random spirit an offering and some calling is usually enough to get their attention (the offering can be anything that sustains life, like food, water, blood, etc.) im partial to wine myself, mixed with some of my blood. we CAN do our rituals away from graveyards and such, but we generally like a dark, secluded silent room. we sometimes show up to a random persons funeral, we usually keep our distance from the mourners, the reason we do this is, with all that praying to the dead, and with the dead body exposed to the room, there is a great deal of death essence in that room. and yes i go for daily strolls through the local graveyard, for meditation and if im feeling stressed. i hoped my answers were adequet for you, any other questions, please ask. (im sorry if there are mis-spellings, when i click the spell check button i get a Error 502 gateway message) |

Thanks so much for the explaination. I really appreciate it.
SO what do the dead have to say? anything important? Like could you get messages from them and pass them on to the persons living relatives and friends? Is that something you do or do you just talk with them? |
